Surprised T-City made it to the end of that round. He looked like a zombie a couple times, went to automatic jiu-jitsu but with from the camera angle he looked out of it.

Max is the man. Can't believe Ortega was able to stay standing from that onslaught, he was gettin his ass absolutely lit up. Gotta give respect to him though he never gave up. Also crazy to think Max's last lost was 5 years ago when he was only 22.

Max does that. He tags you 200+ times, landing clean strikes to your head and face. He was at his best in this fight – landing tons of strikes, avoiding a lot, and defended the takedowns masterfully.

T-City a very worthy contender. As a fan, I think he tried to hard to prove his standup has improved (and it has). He's a jiujitsu wizard compared to all these guys, but there's no championship belt in being Justin Gaethje Jr. He's a bad dude and has a lot of heart, but his next evolution is in coming back to his grappling – he's proved he can stand up with anyone in the division (he landed a lot of BIG hits against the #1 striker in the division and competed superbly).

Just to clarify how tough Ortega is and how crazy of pace Max puts out... Holloway landed a 134 out of 196 significant strikes in round 4 alone. Jesus.

Max set a UFC record for most significant strikes landed...TWO HUNDRED AND NINETY.

290 fucking strikes landed! It would take Derrick Lewis 2 careers worth of bouts to land that many significant strikes.

That's what Max does though, he is a pressure fighter, a volume puncher. It's like Nick Diaz except with better technique and less slapping. He is throwing straight shots, with crosses and tight hooks mixed in, everything compact and with purpose.

That is what's amazing about Max, he throws a TON of punches, but they arent typical "volume" punches, or lazy pawing jabs, they are ....significant.

He also has incredible stamina. I think him vs Dillashaw would be a fucking AMAZING fight.

Also, Ortega has a ton of heart. But the sad part about that.....it leads to a ton of brain damage. Being able to separate willpower and hubris is difficult for a cage fighter. You dont want to go out there in a title fight and just get folded up in the first round as soon as you get caught slipping, as you will take too much of a hit as far as your perceived skill level/ability and toughness.

But then you also dont want to leave the cage looking like a bloody hamburger with braids. So it's almost impossible to know when "enough is enough" in terms of taking punishment.

looked like a boxing TKO shouldve been stopped in round 4

boxing refs have more experience in that dept. the MMA refs tend to let too much go

blood for the blood god. i think theres a gentlemens agreement, like in muay thai, where you don't throw elbows or potential fatalities in the first round. you show respect, feel each other out, then dig into the soul from there over the next few rounds.

but aztec tattoo Brazilian cowboy came in for blood. elbows to the back of the head, grabbing the cage, a groin strike, elobws on the ground from the outset, smashing viking in the face and doing damage plus. 50/50 he should have tapped. but he came back, and like a motherfucking surgeon busted open this aztecs face, gave a full blood mask for the millions worldwide watching, and showed what it is to be a man. god damn i love this sport. my god beat your god.
