Yeah, the complete radio silence screams "Get it out the door and hope people buy tickets before the reviews are out!"
It almost feels like Disney is trying to manufacture reasons for it to fail - releasing it Back-To-Back after better family options in Toy Story and Minions, and almost directly after a mediocrely received hurriedly-de-Disney+-ed sequel.
Plus the timing itself seems bad. The original only came out a decade ago - so the 5 to 10 year old girls that were the core audience are now cynical 15 to 20 year olds, and too young to have nostalgia kick in. Plus the parents are out of the "take the kids to a movie" range themselves.
The only thing I can think of is when this was greenlit, they thought The Rock was still a box office draw, and had to get it out the door before he aged out. I'm not sure any part of that sentence is accurate.
