I'd guess they settle above 20k once it all shakes out. Non trivial amount of people probably taking a break to play WoW forever and check out MNM after some updates.
I don't think people appreciate how difficult it is to get players back once they've stepped away, particularly with a game like this.

People talk about taking a "break" as though they're all inevitably going to come back in a few weeks. But that's not usually how it works. People adjust to not playing. They establish new routines, move on to other games, get invested in something else, or simply realize they're perfectly content without MnM occupying their gaming time. Once that habit is broken, there's no guarantee they'll feel compelled to pick it back up.

And MnM has an additional hurdle that a lot of other games don't - a subscription fee. You're asking someone who has already stepped away to actively decide to start paying for the privilege of coming back. That's an additional barrier to re-engagement, particularly when there are plenty of other games competing for their time and money.

I've said this before, but I think December is when we'll start getting a much clearer picture of what MnM's actual subscription base looks like. By then, you'll have accounted for the initial launch excitement wearing off, cancellations from people who didn't stick around, late subscribers who wanted to see how things developed, and competition from WoW: Forever, GTA VI, and whatever else is pulling people away.

The initial subscription numbers tell us how many people were interested enough to give the game a shot. The numbers after the initial excitement wears off will tell us how many people actually want to make it a regular part of their gaming routine. Those are two very different things.
