Love hearing the non stop whining from the people who have made it known they weren't playing this game for years if ever. Really valuable input, guys.

There will be a cartography system in game at some point that will allow players to make maps in game and sell them.

But it's still pretty pathetic that some of you can't spend a couple hours and learn the layouts yourself. It's really not that hard. All of the early zones are rectangles FFS. Remind yourselves that exploration can be fun. Not everything needs to be ADHD fueled instant gratification.

But I have my colonoscopy on launch day, then it's baked ziti night and I like to watch my news before going to bed at 9pm!!!

The first time i go to a new city i use a map… then eventually i don’t have to. Should i just go around to local restaurants and ask bartenders for directions instead, otherwise I’m a ‘smooth brain’?
follow map, consume quest. Learn nothing.

No, it'll be in EARLY ACCESS in 2026. The game looks years away from a real release date.

I absolutely fucking hate that game devs get to call that "release" now.

I'll try it out when it's "done", since I have no interest in what are essentially paid beta tests for MMOs.
who is paying? ive tried to pay them, they wont take it.

Edit - seems you mean during EA. Perhaps they will charge monthly sub then, however at that point it will probably be warranted unlike pantheon. I mean, just one zone (Fallen Pass) currently has more content than all of pantheon pretty much. They are moving VERY fast as of the last 2-3 months. I took a month and a half break from MMO gaming, got back like 5 days ago and am impressed at how much they have added since.

i would also assume that their "early access" will actually be closer to what 'early access' means and release will be very shortly after. This is just a guess though.

Big Map lobby is very strong

Lobbying implies anyone gives a shit what the devs think or do.I don’t get the sense that’s what’s going on here. They either make a decent product and it gets consumed, or they don’t. Doesn't matter in the slightest.

I’m just here to shoot the shit about MMOs.

Remember when everyone complained about the darkness making it unplayable and now it’s fixed?

No one is complaining about combat, loot, bugs, or actual gameplay.

Fun game confirmed.

The MAPists can stay disgruntled.
So this game really shines in the grouping part. Which is kind of how AoA was for me too. Found a group at crocs which was really good, but then found another at the Ashira camp next to the bandits, and holy fuck that was great exp. Halfway through 6 now.

Still can't figure out how to actually get any hotkeys on the hotbar, or how to orient the skills one horizontally so it functions the same way. Which is driving me crazy.

I'm also not sure I'd sub to this game. Like I said, it's going to live or die on the community, and I'm not convinced there's going to be enough people when it's not a free test weekend. They're excited about 1500 players, but their world sounds like it's going to be quite large. And once you spread all those people out, will it still be fun? I'd be concerned it's like every game recently where you play the first month for the new game rush and then it's dead.

Oh, and as much as people bitch about the WoW questing system of exclamation marks, I've gotta be honest, I don't really understand the appeal of how original EQ did it.

For instance, a ton of bandit pages or some shit dropped. I 100% know they're for some kind of quest, but unless I can look up where they go, there's no chance in hell I'd ever find it. Not only that, but inventory space is so limited that I can't afford to haul 6 or 8 individual pieces of unstackable loot around trying to find who gives the quest.

Same thing with the Ashira Tails item. I looted them thinking I could make some vendoring them. Looked it up on the discord (because fuck running around to 50 vendors each time I kill a new mob looking to see who will buy it), and it turns out they're for a repeatable quest turn in. To some guy upstairs in the Tannery. Which, with how the city is designed, literally 80% of the buildings are empty, and the ones with people NEVER have anyone upstairs. But this one does. And I never would've found him. Hell, even talking to him after I knew he gave a quest, I still just randomly handed them in since he wouldn't actually talk to me. If this is good game development, a hidden NPC, with a hidden quest, that no one would know about without looking it up...then give me lazy WoW quest every day of the week.

i dunno i feel like it’ll sustain a couple thousand concurrent for a decent while. Their end game philosophies are interesting, and i have no idea if they’ll keep people hooked or not.

The problem with WoW quests is that waaaaay too much development time is spent on them. I appreciate M&M quest design because (outside of the class quests) they are efficiently implemented but still offer a reasonable reward without being monotonous. No NPC monologuing, no cutscenes, no "kill 10 rats," and no expectation that you'll level by following quests. Questing in MMOs - outside of a few notable examples, sucks. I want less of it, not more.

That being said, I think they need to fully embrace the concept of these "organic quests" and allow the quest drops to breadcrumb to the quest starter. For example, the gnoll tails. It would be great if you could hand one to any of the leatherworking/tannery NPC and they could tell you "I heard so-and-so was looking for these."

I think the beetle quests are done well, even if they are just "crafting with extra steps." If a quest doesn't have a unique reward, I don't think it should exist.

Regarding maps: a month ago, Shawn did confirm via the Discord that maps will be in the game. It seems that rather than being a UI element you pull up with a hotkey, they will be discrete items, and different maps will show different things. One merchant in Night Harbor could sell a normal map with all the PoIs you'd expect, while another merchant could sell a map that focuses on the city's smuggling routes and drop points. There could also be treasure maps that drop from mobs and poorly-drawn maps that drop from goblins.

We would routinely find NPCs to try to kill and have to flee from before we'd find one that worked. There was no guide for this or anything in comments on Everlore etc. Ask any Darkenbane members from RZ of that era.

I didnt know you were in darkenbane. Was that grayrage's (forget the spelling) guild?

They mostly sat in mid levels when I played, but pretty sure atleast all the high end pvp guilds were rocking showeq most of the time at the very least (and probably hacks/dupes.)

The most important questions, will there be Iksar-like race and do you get FD as Monk?!

Downloading now to check it out for the first time.

Well only got 30 mins in today, but I can't say feeling totally lost and no idea whatsoever where to go is for me anymore. Started in the tree city and theres no indications at all where you are or where you need to go. I'm fine with no map but damn, a sign post or something please.

Grairage came along after Ever and the rest of us stole the guild from the anti PK dummies.

I think you remember going around and testing NPCs to see how viable they were to be killed if you were a PK. There was nothing on any site and we'd have to find XP spots left 70 bluebies came to disrupt our xpings.

Finding XP spots and keeping them on the DL was peak early EQ.
