Was joking around with theories on Nick being let go, someone bringing up legal pr talk on damage control.. But when Nick streamed a couple days ago, I thought it was odd that I kept hearing "thanks for the sub" while nothing immediately wrong; mmos in the last decade have built the worse rep for taking money for undelivered projects. Add to the fact none of the other devs who stream have subs on, and supposedly getting 4 50 gifted subs.

While nothing entirely wrong, potentionally could be viewed as a sorta against company contracts with the whole financially transparent.

Iuno what his role is specifically, and I like him but I doubt we will see pantheon levels of gearshift. I feel bad for him cus it seems like a pretty fun project to be apart of.

Shawn was always ok with the devs on the project having a sub button. He talked about it a lot after he first removed the sub button from his channel.

Nick has made it sound like the workload was immense. Hope whatever comes for him provides more balance.
Following has nothing to do with Nick specifically because I have no knowledge and it likely isn't relevant. I agree that whatever comes next hopefully at least pays.

In my experience when someone complains about workload it's about a coinflip between they're actually overworked, or they're not capable of performing the role. I'm probably being generous calling it 50/50 to be honest.

I'm not trying to be insulting it's just that modern work, especially white collar work, simply isn't something a large portion of people are really cut out for. We're not built for it

This is my experience as well, but i don’t know enough about being a game designer to make that call about this situation.

Something is very strange about game communities.

I am reading reddit and discord posts claiming they are only into MnM because of nick or that he brought so much to the game. Is this just the parasocial aspect of watching streams? The few times I watched Nick, he was testing stuff other people coded against level 1 snakes and then taking notes. I’m sure that was for the stream content but uh, that’s like a qa tester position.

I am curious what concepts he brought to the game that had earned him undying devotion of some people.

Hi Shawn. (I dont know who any of these people are but this is like old school foh, shills making alt accounts to push an agenda. They really are capturing the spirit of EQ)

Nick is the face of the game for some people. He streams in primetime US on Twitch. Shawn streams more during Euro times on Twitch. It makes sense some people only know Nick. I highly doubt Shawn that obtuse, but who knows.

What was the dude in charge of?

Class design?

Were classes near any state of "Early access completion"?

Were most the classes nearly copy and pasted from other games like AOA and EQ?

Were most spells that were not copy and pasted from other games in some unfinished state?

Because, from what I understand, the dude was in charge of class design and balance and couldn't design...OR balance. He took other design from other games and couln't balance them.

Someone please parachute in and tell me I'm fuckin wrong and the dude was the paragon for productivity and creativity in MNM and the game is toast without him because the amount of dickriding that yall seem to be doin for the guy is makin me believe it too.

It really comes down to parasocial relationships, which are becoming more common. Especially as newer generations grow up in environments where a lot or ALL of their social interaction happens online rather than in person.

So yeah, it's weird. But no, it's not something that's going away. It'll likely just become even more prevalent over time.

We don’t really know all his contributions and I’m sure he was productive considering they kept him for so long, but I’m thinking the same thing. In fact you could argue he wasn’t doing his job very well, but that seems in bad taste tbh.

You do realize that every EQ class was basically a copy/paste of DnD right???

It's so weird, because the discussion in this thread up until he was fired was about how fucking terrible the class development has been going, where essentially it felt like everything was going backwards.

Guy gets fired and all the sudden his simps step in about how the game will never be the same.

Only thing I'm seeing is people having compassion for a person that lost their job and likely a future revenue stream they relied on. No simping for him here, quite the opposite in fact. Not seen anyone here say anything stronger than supporting Nick as a person lol.

That is between the ghoulish celebrating of the "I told you so" crowd. Some of you seem to thrive on others misery. Sad.

That said the people with actual experience with the game have been saying class design has been lacking so hopefully things will shake out differently from here.

I wasn't necessarily saying people here (although there are a couple), but it sounds like the Discord/Reddit people are really on "team Nick." Hence all the posts about Shawn freaking out in Discord and handling it poorly.

I couldn't give a shit about Nick. I don't know him, never will. Although it's strange to me that people have so much empathy for him and such hostility towards people here.
