Thats what I mean, changing one glyph in the 36 combo changes them all. I seriously hope they thought this one through already and have a clear picture of what each does. Otherwise it is going to be chaos.

Thats wild, glad some of you deeped it.

The ele class had 16 combinations and only 4 were functional, wonder if they are gunna work that system out entirely too.

Class: Wizard - Deep Dive — Monsters & Memories

Wizards get the option to play as Invoker from Dota now. I'm sure there's going to be a lot of bitching about this one, but I think it'll probably make wizards a more interesting class to play.
I mean it’s an interesting idea but how are these boomer bros that think WoW is some sort of zoomer DDR game going to be able to play this lol

I’d much rather macro combinations of 3 key presses and map them to static keys using software than dick around with constantly swapping spells into different ability slots.

Hey guys we are making a classic mmo rpg, like EQ classic was. Simple high fantasy, nothing super crazy. Nicely grounded in classic fantasy tropes- elevating them to modern tech but keeping visuals and systems simple and classic an…….

It just sounds like FFXI Renkai's but on a singular character. You do a series of spells/abilities to get a bonus outcome, tis an ps2 mmo mechanic from 2002 as far as I know.

I could be wrong, but reading it.. I got the idea that you choose to do raw damage or buff/debuff. I wouldn't be surprised if majority, like 75% of the spells from glyphs, is some kind of utility attached.. then the remain 25% of spells is dps focused. I doubt it'll be too crazy purely because they're keeping dumbfiring in the game still.. you wont get much more outside of like %bonus for doing it. Unless they lean into it the opposite direction, and the dumbfire spell bar is absolute bare minimum.

Did we read the same deep dive? It looks to me like wizard has 16 different damaging spell lines. You can use your spell scrolls and spell book like any other class to put spells on your bar and completely ignore the new system.

Alternatively, there is a glyph and invocation system that the wizard can use to put 4 glyphs and 1 incantation on the bar (5 spell slots). With these 5 buttons you can cast any of your 16 damaging spell lines.

Press 1 2 3 4 5 get Fireball
Press 1 2 2 3 5 get Ice Blast
Press 1 3 2 4 5 get Fire Volley
etc.

All this system is doing is allowing wizards to use 5 spell slots to cast any of their 16 damaging spells, leaving them 5 spells slots for whatever utility they want.

How useful will this wind up being remains to be seen. I only played wizard to 20 in the open playtests, but I basically only ever used the maximum damage nuke, the harder-to-resist nuke, or the .1s stun nuke (for interrupts).

I think it could be neat, and maybe a wizard who's got all the spell combos memorized and can pop any of their 16 spells will do some cool and unexpected things. It could also be extra button presses for no real reason. I've I'm gonna spend the whole night/fight casting a single spell over and over, there's no sense in hitting 5 buttons each time to cast that single spell.

Anyhow, I guess we'll see! I could have this completely wrong.

I mean I’d rather them try shit like this than just copy paste p99 like they did originally.

People in the discord already complaining it’s turning into WoW combat

Seems like they don't know what they want this game to be me. I mean, if we're trying to make people more active, why not make it an action MMO? And if it's that, fuck it, let's update the graphics so they're not so retarded too!

They put retarded limits on themselves by basically copy pasting EQ's quarter century old mechanics, and now that they're boxed into a corner because obviously those systems were retarded, because they were only there due to limits in computing from the time, they're trying to figure out a way around them instead of just abandoning them altogether.

My argument from the start has been that this is exactly what I wanted them to do. Go back and solve these problems in a -different- way than WoW led the genre. I tend to think there are better solutions and a small team like this is the best way to scratch that up. May work, may not, but I'm here for it personally. I reject the idea that MMO design is "solved" and we all need to converge on Fortnite the MMO or whatever

Wow was gay because there wernt open world dungeons, drops worth farming, or incomparable camped items with cool clicks. (I only played pre expansions). They had combat real smooth.

This is what i read too. I’m not sure what people are confused about.

i suppose not having to have translocates on your bar will be nice? Other than that it’s just hotbars with extra hoops. It’s gonna require you to memorize >6 glyph combos to be even minimally useful, and probably won’t pay off until you memorize >10. I don’t see tons of folks using it, but the sweatiest are gonna feel really good about it.

I have never played a wizard but i think the removal of a last hit bonus is a mistake. That’s a fun gameplay hook for those who enjoy it.

Not as thrilled with this one as I was with Spellblade, but I’d never play a Wizard anyway so whatever.

Memorize? Learn what they do then add the combo to your macro keyboard more like. It’s cool if it works but I still think it is insane system to add for all the reasons previously stated.

If you can hotkey these things it’s even less of an impact.

Realistically are you going to bind 36 (or however many of those 36 are useful) separate hotkeys, or just learn the handful of spells that you care about? I'm sure some people will do both but the system can still be useful and interesting. Its a good way to allow Wizard to have access to more of their kit at a given time without changing their limited loadout approach. Plenty of room for it to suck, but as a concept its not bad imo. Worth noting each Glyph has a brief cast time so if you AHK bind it you're locking your inputs for however long it takes to cast all 4. May not be as ideal as it appears on the surface

It’s a trade off for the lore of being a big brain spell caster. Have immediate access to 41 spells. But then you gotta dial a spell for 36 of them.
That said if I expect to be casting 300 fireballs in a night. 300 inputs vs 1500 to do that seems like just meming fireball is go the play.
If yer in a cluster fuck of a pug and you need more of your kit that has some value maybe.

Yall are making huge assumptions about the player base. they're going to get told the best single target combo, and the best aoe combo. then only use those. they will have 2 hotkeys. sit till monsters are in range. stand. blast blast blast. sit. #wizardlife
