I sure hope the main guy from the first one comes back because that character was really interesting and exciting.

I didn’t think the first one was that bad. Not good. But I enjoyed it like the so bad they’re good 80’s action flicks. The Cole dude was fucking dumb though.

Yeah this looks like what the previous remake should have been. I’m down. We rewatched the original last month bc our 7 year old was asking to listen to some songs in the car that reminded me of the original theme, so I turned that on and he loved the techno / voices. Had to show him what dad grew up playing.

First one was decent - it was a COVID casualty that went straight to Hbo max if I recall, so it had a limited budget

This new one looks awesome. Cole showed up for a second in the trailer, but I imagine he gets killed off early on and that makes Raiden go get Cage as a replacement. Probably also gives Scorpion an additional revenge arc since I think they made Scorpion the ancestor of Cole

Can we just get something that is entertaining? That is all I want. No preaching, no real world political allegory, no current cultural dialogue; just Mortal fucking Kombat?

The Cole thing is definitely what fucked up the 1st one. And China Virus didn't help. But even with both of those, I thought it was still pretty good. Kano made most of the movie though.

This one looks like good ole B movie fun.

Am I remembering right that a director/producer/whatever for the first movie said they omitted Johnny from it because it "doesn't feel right having a white male main character in the current climate" (which was 2020)?

One of the dumber, more self-sabotaging things I've ever seen during the marketing phase of a movie, but luckily for the movie, it kinda flew under the radar.

After that it's kind of funny how now they're making the second one JOHNNY CAGE-A-THON: ALL JOHNNY ALL THE TIME

Teen Mileena and Kitana throw down then give out oily fourteen year old massages? Now that's entertainment!

Kano's back so that's a plus. Probably the best part of the last one along with Scorpion. Everyone else was a wet fart.

Dewey Crowe is in the new cast... Well alright.

One thing we lost for about a decade with the demise of video rentals was the DVD movie. 2004-2012 had so many medium budget, fun to watch schlock movies that wouldn’t make much in the theaters, weren’t great art, but would get made to cash in on rental sales. Then with the move to streaming they stopped getting made. Now it’s gone full circle and streaming his profitable enough that they can start cranking out movies like this that are a fun Saturday afternoon watch again. The world is healing.

will this be good? No. Will it have some fun moments and be a decent watch. Yes. And I’ll take it.
