Bro is champion among champions and choses to sacrifice himself to eternal torment to contain Baal, with the expectation of failure. He wrestles with him mentally for hundreds of years.

It's not a story of an unwilling hero or one of brief heroics and a victorious conclusion, but instead a sober tale of a hero who has it all choosing a hopeless defeat to help to help a doomed faction of mortals locked in an eternal war.

In contrast to the player in diablo1 who falls almost immediately to diablos influence.
