I must be retarded because I cannot find any new commander precons online. I asked the local shop in person last week and they said the only mono they have is in standard or pioneer.

It's the same kind of dishonesty that I heard in the spring with "Trump is deporting immigrants." No, he's deporting illegal aliens. They aren't legal immigrants. They're aliens. Not wanting your daughter to be in an isolated bathroom with a 6'0 200 lb male is perfectly understandable. There's a reason no one really gives a shit if females use men's restrooms. It's the power dynamic and history that if a female tried to assault a man, she most likely will not be able to overpower him.

I think one thing the last 12 months has really shown is that everyone is over public shaming about this nonsense.

If you can find an already cracked Necron Dynasties deck for cheap, might be worth it. Currently 250+ unopened. Very fun base deck (doesn't hurt I love necrons) and can be quite strong with a little modification.

For a cheap mono edh deck that can punch above its weight, just go goblins. Pick whichever flavor of Krenko you prefer. Can also do artifact shenanigans deck with Daretti.

I recommend using EDHRec; very helpful if you're feeling a little overwhelmed with what to look for.

So it's been like 27 years or something since I played Magic. If I was thinking about getting back into it, does anyone have any thoughts? What formats are best? What money am I looking at?

In all seriousness I was playing Arena pretty heavy with some of my buddies for a while. I don't even remember what damn set that had come out I think it was like Godzilla one, but I just stopped because everything was getting so weird with all these crossover things.

I mean I guess if you've got a good comic bookstore with people that aren't mutants, you could probably go and play Commander and have some fun. I just don't think the online deal is worth it any longer with all the stupid IP shit they're tying into the game.

This is a very outside view. Doesn't mean I don't think about playing the game again because it's a lot of fun, and I remember starting back in Revised and antiquities was out. I guess this was 94 maybe, but comic book store tournaments were great. Buddy of mine and I played black and red in a duos tournament. He had all the forks and mana flares, direct damage, Shivans, Dragon Whelps, etc.

I ran hypnotic specters, Royal assassins, icey manipulators, nightmares, and I think a lord of the pit. Didn't hurt I had a chaos orb to blow somebody's land up if they stacked it all together. Black knights, the black moon card, and drain life.

Fucking crushed that tournament. It was a great Saturday afternoon.

I don't know if you can ever get that type of experience again playing the game, but especially you won't find it online. Cats at all just comes down to you having a local group of friends and a good comic book store.

Despite its flaws it's still one of the funnest games ever made. We do an annual get together with all of our friends from high school and college, and a bunch of the guys bring the physical cards and we'll make decks and get drunk and play. It's a blast.

Play as in re-enter the competitive scene? Begin investing in sealed product and the reserved list? Terrible ideas. If you just want to play some cards at the local game store the bar's pretty low. If you don't give a shit about the social aspect and just want to play the game than Magic Arena, Magic the Gathering Online and even the old Microprose computer game can scratch that itch.

I have no real interest in Arena. It would be local game store and friends. I guess I need to check out the local scene these days and see how degenerate it is. Probably still all the same fucks from 20 years ago lol

I don't often visit this thread, but I started playing during Revised and completely nope'd out of Magic in 2016 after playing the game hardcore all the way to the Pro Tour level. My last PT was Oath of the Gatewatch (I did horribly, but I was alone and took a longshot by trying to break the format with a brew).

Anyway, the Leftist rot had been building at a terrifying pace and I reached my breaking point when they started giving trannies Pro Tour slots just because they were trannies. The coverage crew would disproportionately cover the trannies in feature matches as well. The level of glazing and deferential treatment the LGBTQLMOP+-123 people received was absolutely infuriating. They let them break rules, gave them rulings that were clearly incorrect, and anyone who wasn't completely supportive of their collective delusion was blacklisted. People who were thought to be Trump supporters or even just Conservative would sometimes get mysteriously disqualified from tournaments for accusations like 'hate speech' or harassment that literally never happened.

I absolutely despise WotC post 2012-'13, but I'm also a hypocrite because I continue to buy their trash-tier D&D books.

I remember people uploading videos of themselves defacing cards that featured art by Terese Nielson. "I needed to buy Force of Will for this event, these were the cheapest ones, let me record a video of myself taking a black market to the art." I couldn't make sense of it at all at the time. Sure you bought it do whatever you want with it but how are you the good guy for any of this? What the fuck is the video for? I don't think "virtue signaling" was in my lexicon yet.
