going from 30 to 60 fps is worth very little to me.

2080 is the worst deal I think I've ever seen in a new GPU - marginally better performance than a 1080TI (and worse in some games) for $200 more. Line up boys, we've got a hot deal comin'!

The only thing I'm hoping for from the 2080 is that it would push down the premium pricing put on the 1080 cards a bit.... I'm still running on dual 680ti cards and would like to be a cheap ass but still upgrade. heh

Reviews are out. Everyone is saying the RTX 2080 is delivering the same performance as 1080ti (SHOCKER) And this generation of cards is a complete bust due to price point.

Nvidia RTX 2080 and 2080 Ti review: A tale of two very expensive graphics cards

This "Positive" slant is hilarious because "We didn't have a 1080ti card to show you in the benchmarks, but look how it blows away the 1080!"

https://gizmodo.com/what-on-earth-makes-a-1-200-nvidia-2080-ti-graphics-ca-1829126369

NVIDIA needs to get their asses kicked back to reality.

Yeah didn't expect much from the 2080. It's a large boost over the 1080, but it's also way the fuck more expensive so that's a bit of a shit comparison, and it's actually not any better than the 1080ti which is, the same price or cheaper. So seems all kinds of worthless. The 2080ti is really the only "interesting" one, in the sense that it should be a large boost at a very substantial price increase, but at least there's a point to it, albeit not necessarily worth the cost.

Yeah at $1299 it's pointedly laughable. I can build a new gaming rig with a 1080ti and blow away my 1440p144hz display for that.

Its pretty hilarious how some people think they must have 60 fps to enjoy gaming.

I'll take 30 fps in 4k over 60fps at 1080p any day of the week. The absolute majority of the games I play aren't even FPS games, and lets not pretend the framerate is key while playing drunk LoL or CS.

BF5 is going to be shit at 240fps.

If I go back to playing this game competitively I'll need 120+ FPS

But I'm too old for that. Also the amount of 120 FPS porn is disappointingly low.

The 1080 cards might go down slightly before they go out of stock. Given the price point on the 2*** it won't move much, and people will continue to buy 1080s as long as they can.

Personally I'd say get a good system with a 1080gtx as soon as you can, if you really want to play at high FPS in 4k, get a 1080ti.

I upgraded my I 7 920, 16 gb ram, HDD, AMD 290 R9 to an I7 7700, 16gb ram, SDD, 1080gtx and the upgrade feels massive, like an entirely new platform. Once you start playing in 4k you will not go back, SSD is huge also even though I had a high quality HDD.

Guess we now know why nvidia forced board partners to take 10xx cards to get 20xx cards, because there's no reason to buy any 20xx when the 1080 and 1080ti performs just as well for much cheaper than 20xx aside from the 2080ti.

Pretty shitty of nvidia.

Hell, you can pick up a 1080ti (Which is even a better card on paper than the 2080) for $679.

'

I would almost do this, except I am playing so many 4k games on my consoles now. But with that said, I recently wanted to play through Batman AA and AC again, and saw the remaster for sale for 7.99 - ended up digging deeper and seeing it was only 1080p and horrible frame rate even on the X. So considering I have that on PC (And many others) I could always move to a Ti and take advantage oif my dell 27 144ghz display in the PC room and at 1440p, I would be set for a LONG time.

This is exactly what I am moving towards and I posted about every step.

PS4 pro on 55" 100hz philips oled with ambient light seems hard to beat.

That's just crazy. Even a simple test like loading up Shadow of the Tomb Raider on a PS4 Pro or Xbone X and switching between 1080p60 and 4K30 shows a massive difference. I don't know how anyone could stand to play the game on 4K when the 60fps mode is available. It's fucking horrible, like Lara's swimming in molasses.

Still don't understand why anyone bothers with 4K on PC either, when 3440x1440 is so clearly superior as well as requiring less GPU power to hit 60-144 fps. Instead of worrying about raytracing on hardware still woefully inadequate for the task, people should be asking where the hell real HDR support in Windows and on monitors is. LG is putting out a 5K2K monitor in a few days that finally has DisplayHDR 600 certification (which is still low compared to any HDR10 TV, but might be fine at sitting-at-a-desk viewing distances), but for some reason they've skipped right over the 1440UW range. Plus it's a $1500 panel that has neither Freesync 2 nor Gsync. Other than that the DisplayHDR certification list is a wasteland as far as ultrawide goes.

So for me I have Tomb Raider through Gamefly, and I am playing in 4k mode with solid 30 and not having any issues what so ever and the game looks gorgeous. (65 OLED). Controls are responsive, graphics are fluid, etc. This is on Xbox One X. I am hearing the PS Pro version isn't nearly the same and also suffers from long load times. (I haven't run into those either on the X). Also PS Pro is consistently below 60 (Averaging around 45) in 60 Fps mode at 1080p.

My 980ti is still "good enough" as far as PC gaming goes(thought I was hoping to dump that in my bedroom PC, replacing the R9 290 I have). Looks like I might hold onto it a while longer. When is AMD announcing their next gen?

Part of it is that 4K became the craze in TV's and monitor's are just coasting off of their popularity/marketing efforts, but yes, the importance of 4k is pretty overblown, especially as I guarantee you that most people interested in it have never even considered viewing distance for both field of view or PPI. I don't think UW is the alternative for most people though, even beyond the worries about content support, needing ~30% more power to push it over its equivalent 16:9 isn't going to be worth the trade off for some.

Here's GN's review of the 2080. Steve is in full snarky sarcasm mode for this one

And they pushed the 4K checkerboard resolution on the X a little too high, causing it to dip into the mid 20's frequently while the Pro is more stable at 30. Camera movement on the 1080p mode is still so much smoother even if it really is low 50's a lot of the time that I'd never choose the other anyway. I've been sitting maybe 4' from my TV while playing it because my back is fucked up this week and I can't sit like I normally do and it's not even that easy to see the difference in IQ between 1080p and 4K modes. 1080p seems to have decent enough AA--and the game has such overdone motion blur--that it doesn't really matter.

As for load times, I'm still really curious about what other people are getting, but that's a topic that should be taken over to the Tomb Raider thread.

Bottom line though, HDR has made me even less interested than ever in spending tons of money on PC upgrades anytime remotely soon. I don't care what gpu you have or what resolution/fps you're running at... if you don't have HDR, what's the point? The difference is so night and day that I would never play a game on PC that is also on PS4 with HDR support.

At least we all agree the 1080 series is the superior choice and Nvidia needs to choke on a 2-series american inventor dong.

i applaud nvidia because this release makes me feel just happy and fine continuing with my year old 1080, and normally a new product makes me jelly and sad

also helps that there isn't a single PC game I am looking forward to this fall, all the biggies I'll be playing on console especially since battlefield 5 is garbage. Maybe when Star Citizen and/or Anthem finally ships I'll look back at video cards and monitors

that gamer nexus video is nuts, its crazy how close the 1080ti is to the 2080 RTX. Seems like RTX is gonna take even longer for adoption than HDR

I'm willing to bet they negotiated with Third parties to keep MSRP's high on the new cards so they can unload their 10 series stock. Once the 10 series are all sold off I bet the MSRP's of 20 series will drop.
