I'm willing to bet they negotiated with Third parties to keep MSRP's high on the new cards so they can unload their 10 series stock. Once the 10 series are all sold off I bet the MSRP's of 20 series will drop.

It also has the added benefit of inflating the perceived acceptable prices for the next launch

Yeah I can see that. Funny thing is, the 1080ti is actually a better card on paper than the 2080 minus Ray Tracing capability and DLSS.

Bleh, I really don't want to buy a 1080ti, but my 960 is show it's age. I feel like cost for a 2080ti is just unacceptably high for little reason. Seems like I'm just going to be sitting on my hands. Guess I'll find a 4k TV to buy on Black Friday

I'd keep tabs out on the used market for 1080's. Thee is usually a glut in the market on used cards after new cards come out.

I stil like my 32" 1080p setup I have. Gto that fucker from Costco for like $169, its a dell full IPS panel too. I see no reason to go to any higher resolution since the games I play on it all look amazing with amazing frame rates with my 1070. I dont even want to see what im missing.

Isn't everyone afraid of getting nearly burnt out mining cards though?

I've seen the 1080ti down to $600, figure with some rewards CC the week or two before BF you might be able to snag one for less.

Ended up going with a 1080Ti for a good price to replace the 1070's i had in SLI. Wanted to go single card as there seems to be less and less SLI support especially with games moving to DX12. Sold one of hte 1070's to recoup some money, not sure what to do with the 2nd as both kids already have 1060/1070 and the MSI 1070 I still have wont even begin to fit in the prebuilt machine i got the wife a few years ago. Also got a 1440p 144hz monitor to pair with it and its faaaaantastic.

I picked up two 1080Ti's for $500 each off ebay. Took the risk. Paid off. Bitches are beast, and clock high on air comparatively (1900+mhz). Also, 4K is absolutely where it's at. I can turn off AA and not notice a difference other than a 30fps gain. Any comparison to 1080p is fucking laughable. I can't really compare console circumstances, since they're objectively unique (setting, games, screen, purpose). If I plugged my PC up to my 4K HDR TV in the living room with Dolby Atmos surround sound, I'm sure it'd be amazing, but I play my PC in a chair, not on the couch.

Will state that the 2080 is likely just a more power efficient version of the 1080. Congratulations on pulling an AMD...

I had thought they might rebrand all those leftover 1080 & 1080ti's as 2050's and 2060's, but the 2080 being equivalent to a 1080ti pretty much guarantees that won't happen

Waiting for 7nm for sure now after seeing the 1440p benchies compared to the 1080ti.

Always have the upgrade itch, but at this price/perf I'll wait until 7nm to go 4k.

Pretty much what was expected. 25-35% increase, but at a greatly increased price

I heard all fps above 30 produced by a 2080 are discernable by the human eye, unlike 1080 ones. Maybe.

So is DLSS something that needs to be software supported or can the card do it to any game?

It needs software support AFAIK, similar to how games only support certain types of AA. No idea if any sort of injection will be available.

(Someone please correct me if I'm wrong)

Edit: Actually, considering how the tech works with how it's generated outside of rendering, it would require Nvidia to do the work for specific games

They're not running mining cards on full power here simply because it's much more power efficient to run them on lower settings. I guess if electricity is free that doesn't matter much, but old mining cards that were constantly used at an average level should be in a much better shape than something that was overclocked out of the box and operating at maximum capacity a few hours a day.
