Arenas are on the PTR for the month. You can solo or group queue from anywhere, it is best 3 out of 5 matches win, and matches are 2 minutes long.

Lol fucking youtubers still trying to milk the new world cow. Like bruh, obvious they fucked up, they have a development plan and are actively working on it. Video is a waste of 30 minutes

The video had a bias slant as well towards the PvP side of things - it sounded like he liked the Rust model they originally had.

He also missed it glossed over other core reasons got pushed away: punishing grind, lack of viable transportation options, putative gold costs that didn’t align with the typical income of the Playerbase, dungeon orbs limiting dungeon runs in a lacking pve content environment, PVPers quitting when they got stomped and lost their towns, toxic guilds intentionally sabotaging an entire server

I don’t doubt it would see some initial popularity, but that type of server would drop off hard population wise unless they did massive changes to the game to support it

You mean like how the main game did? I don’t care about longevity. I’d get a month out of that maybe even longer.

Exactly - their worries are long term retention, so 1 month Andys rank pretty low on the priority meter

Why? They don’t even have a sub and their monetization is a joke. I honestly don’t know what the fuck they want. Apparently it’s to appeal to no one.

A PVP server with inventory drop would be a fucking ghost town a month after launch. Maybe even less with the current gearing system and people abusing hacks.

Only way that shit would maybe work is if you did some 30 day forced reset model with massive XP boost modifiers and a complete overall of the gear and crafting system. Add some swag you get on your account if you meet some metric by the end of the "season". But this would take time and money to do and in the end would probably only appeal to a specific subset (IE, masochists)

I mean the idea is to get people to buy the game and/or play. If people buy the game and the server is a success for X amount of time then they accomplish the goal of making money. If it becomes a ghost town (like most of NW has become) then start over and change some shit up.

But that takes away from development of the core game, which is already at a pace that the population of the game is unhappy with. You need people and money/hardware to work on a mode/server like that and not have it fail.

Using an example, Fallout 76 had a Battle Royale mode that launched years back. However, the only reason it was included was because there was a freed up development team at one of Bethesda's satellite offices that worked on it independently from the core game development team. And initially it was successful. Then that dev team that worked on it got stolen to work on Starfield, the mode got no further updates of note, and it died from stagnation and Bethesda pulled the plug to free up server racks.

They gained like 3.6% players a few month ago miraculously, but the latest loss is 21%, so not looking good.

I'm not sure how their in game store makes money to be honest..

Initially it won’t take shit. Turn flagging on for everyone outside of cities. Enable inventory drop on PvP death. Fin.

You make money that you otherwise wouldn’t have made and move on. If it turns out well enough then you can invest some of that back into it.

Its kind of like Blizzards refusal to do Classic servers all those years. You don’t really want that…actually many of us do.

This game was originally designed for hardcore mechanics and they just completely abandoned all of it but it’s still deep in the New World DNA. Those of us that like those sorts of games see it and it’s infuriating that it isn’t acted upon.

Well to highlight some high level issues:

Inventory drop means nothing, because you just travel outside towns with minimal things in your inventory to minimize loss

Equipped item drop means you can never recover from death because of the game's shitty slot machine gambling crafting system

Gank squads bottom feeding becomes the de-facto experience for most people, because most people in those type of games modes aren't looking for a challenge, they are looking for a dopamine hit from murdering noobs

You would need a different rule set for Wars/OPR/etc

PVP Balance would turn into even more of a toxic nightmare. If you die now to some shit like a Schizo build, it is annoying but whatever. If you die in a loot drop PVP server, then that becomes unacceptable because you are essentially stunlocked and die for the duration of the combo.

Inventory drop means nothing? How do you get materials back to town to make gear/trade?

People worried about dying and losing their inventory should stick to the PvE servers.

I think these kinds of mechanics makes the market much more interesting. Actually going out and getting shit means something since you can't do anything in absolute safety. Risk/reward is fun for some of us masochists.

Plenty of work arounds for getting back to town
1) Queue for OPR/Dungeon, then get removed. Free teleport back to town.
2) Teleport to house you own
3) Use a shrine
4) Teleport to inn

Even if you disabled teleporting of any type with inventory on you (which would cause problems unto itself, because no one wants to walk everywhere which is the whole reason they rolled back the teleporting costs and limitations because thousands of people got sick of that shit), there are still ways to abuse it. People will run more bots, or just do shit at 4am when most people with jobs that aren't 3rd shift are asleep.

Plus it just gets back to the gank meta: Bottomfeeders just wait in bottleneck spots and try to murder you. Eventually gatherers get sick of this shit and quit.

It's shit like that which is going to make AoC be a miserable failure unless they roll the losses back
