Day 1 of something like 85 days straight with a hockey game on. With football also going on we're in the prime time of the year for sports. Feeling pretty good atm.

Go Caps! Our last best chance in DC to have a playoff team this year!

Yeah, you're right about Crosby's cap hit. But let's compare instead to Malkin, Perry, Staal, Getzlaf, or Nash. None of those circumvent the cap, and all of them are far superior players. I think you're crazy if you think that Kessel would have gotten more than that in the open market.

edit: whoops, Malkin's contract cap hit is only 8.7 until the end of this year, then 9.5
You are using the old CBA with the old cap. As you mentioned Malkin is getting more, Nash signed in 2009 and is making 8.2 mill a year near the end of the contract and has worse production since he signed the extension, Perry is due to make 7 million this year, 9 next year and 10 million in a couple year, Getz makes 6.5 this year 8.75 next and 9.25.

It wont matter in a couple years when the cap is 85 million anyways. It will look like a steal and I guarantee Sather or Philly would have offered him more then 8.

Meh, that's splitting hairs. Over the entire term of their contracts they're making virtually the same average salary as Kessel, but are much better players. I guess we'll see where the market starts coming in for equivalent stars, but I certainly feel a lot better about the Oilers locking up Eberle/Hall/RNH for similar terms for contracts that are a quarter less than Kessel's.

Haha...I love hockey fans. The mere mention of Bettman's name in Chicago's banner ceremony got the boos raining down, great way to start the new season.

Did the Blackhawks seriously raise 4 banners tonight? Pretentiousness at its finest. I get the Cup and Conference.. but a Presidents Trophy banner? And Division? LOL

Ugh that game winning goal Holtby gave up. Was glad to see the top line look so dangerous a lot of the night...later into the year I think ovechkin buries another one or two of those chances. Nice to see Grabovski have a good game, although I'm not surprised. Would like to see a lot more of us vs. Chicago this year.

Holy shit was Dubnyk ever awful tonight. The Oilers dominated the Jets and still lost because of 3 terrible goals against. I have been a supporter of his, but jesus christ, he has to get those shit goals out of his game in a hurry.

That must be one hell of a blood clot.

No worries, I'm sure that Pens can play half a season with MAF without shitting the bed. Just need to average 6 goals a game or more.

Again, regular season is not Fleury's problem. He was 23-8 last year with a 2.39GAA. He's usually good for a 60-70% win rate and 2.3-2.4GAA.

Then the playoffs start. Where they'd be better off bringing Frank Pietrangelo out of retirement than playing Fleury. Whatever the fuck happened to his brain between the Cup win and the last few seasons has broken him. He was great those 2 years when they played in the finals, and an absolute laughingstock since.

So it took Patrick Roy all of one game to lose his shit?

haha, what a fuck wad. Couldn't stand him as a player, doubt I'll feel any different about him as a coach.
