I think king henrick is the only goalie on a long term contract that has worked out. Goalie contracts longer than four years make me nervous.

Is it that noticeable? I'm afraid I am incapable of loving a goalie again....I've just been burned too many times.
That's the basis of my hate, but it's definitely tainted by MAF=P
I rambled on about this last season, but goalies these days are just 6' 2"+ guys with giant pads who can somewhat reliably lumber in front of the puck for a season ormaybetwo until their weakness is exposed. Lundqvist is such an anomaly right now.
Are they going through with enforcing smaller pads like they talked about last year? I'm dying to see the next Hasek come up, a goalie making highlight reel saves through freakish reflexes and speed and doing it for YEARS.

I dunno, I think Luongo has been pretty damn consistently good as well, although King Henrik is on another level. Nothing will ever justify Luongo's contract, but he's been one of the top 5 goalies in the league for a long time. 12 seasons with a save percentage of .915 or better, minus three seasons (last year at .907 and one each at .913 and .914), is nothing to sniff at. And this is coming from a massive Vancouver hater. He caught shit because the team in front of him sucks dick and couldn't score more than 9 goals in 7 games. He had a couple pretty bad games in there too, he's certainly not a "big game" goalie (see the 2010 Olympics), but he's been extremely consistent over his career.
Overall though, I agree that goalies are way too streaky and risky to give contracts that are much longer than 4-5 years.

They are in fact going through with the smaller pads. I sense this will be a hard year for the likes of Mike Smith and Pekka Rinne.
From what I understand, they are simply shrinking the tops of the pad so that goalies can't make it totally impossible to five-hole them.

I always kind of forget that Luongo is actually good. Think I have that stupid contract stuck in my brain and just instantly dismiss him like he's DiPietro.
