Yeah, Knight looked awesome. Handled the pressure like a pro.

Sorokin had a monster game as well, kid stole that game for the Isles particularly in the 2nd.

Jarry however.... atrocious giveaway in 2OT. I just can't see it with him, he somehow impresses me less than Murray did.

Those Sid and Geno flashes are fewer and farther between. Feeling like the end of an incredible era in Pittsburgh.

Think i'm almost full circle on Mathews. I was a total fanboy his draft year, but his whole "fashion phase" and the drunken sexcapades kind of turned me away.

Now he's kind of turning into a self aware meme like Kessel and i'm starting to come back around on him.

I wonder if McDavid will be blamed as the problem
I can't imagine so. Especially not when there is so much more for them to blame. Who knows though, hockey fans are weird. I see people on the Rangers trade board saying they don't want him for what he'd cost. That's just nuts, there's not much I wouldn't part with to get him to NY, and you make that salary work because he's worth it.

When they say 'what he'd cost' though, I assume Edmonton would set a price so ridiculously high nobody would/could really match it.

I guess. That's the real question though, what would it even take?

I'd probably do any 2 of Laf/Fox/Kakko/Kravtsov, any of our top D prospects, a roster player or two and 2 1sts. I'd throw in a third 1st if it meant keeping any of the preceding or another D or G (where EDM are weak) to keep a forward. Who knows if that even gets it done though. Both fanbases would hate it, but both teams would be better than they are today.

I just don't know if there is a real price for it. I know that sounds silly because obviously you could offer so much in theoretical value it would have to be "better", but hear me out. Yes, McDavid's cap hit is huge, but he's also absolutely worth it at the peak of his powers right now. Frankly whatever other combos of guys on cheaper deals won't end up being worth as much as being able to have one guy that does as much as he does can. Assuming of course, you're able to build the rest of the team around him without his cap hit totally wrecking that (which is possible). Also no other amount of 1st round picks have any guarantee they're going to come close to the value you get out of McDavid currently. Frankly they're likely to not be good 1sts if you're moving him to a decent team, either.

If Laf and Kakko looked a little more productive already, and Fox had another year on his ELC, maybe you could try to sell them on a sick package of 3 studs on ELC or RFA semi cheap with term the next 3-4 years.

Its one of those trades where McDavid is so good you will never get anything worth trading him for. And if you are the team trading for him, you would have to give up so much, that your team would just end up being like Edmonton is currently.

All 4 of those forwards listed for the NYR dont even add up to 1 McDavid. So saying you would only do 2 of them is a fucking joke. You would trade all 4 of them if you got McDavid.

All 4 plus everything else I Iisted? I have no doubt people think he's worth that, but for me thats an overpayment.

I'm only throwing out what I would hypothetically be okay with, and what I listed makes both teams better today and in Edmonton's case set up very nicely for the next decade.

I get what he means, it's kind of like fantasy football stud RB's. Depending on how the rest of your team is (if you have solid other guys, or at least solid enough), there's just no benefit in moving one of those rare guys who can give you such high value in the one spot they occupy, even for X amount of other good players. I will say Fox isn't a forward, he's a stud 1D in the Norris discussion, and if you could somehow put together a 1D like that, with a 1C and a 1st line wing...all on cheap contracts, you could MAYBE start thinking about a realistic possibility. But I agree the other guys aren't on that level.

I totally get all that, dude scored at like a 2 point per game pace. I don't think anyones on that level! We were talking about crazy fans saying they didn't want him and I was trying to imagine what he was worth to me. Maybe I did a bad job explaining all that, idk lol.

Anyone would be crazy not to want him, but I think we'll be cup contenders in a few years regardless so why give everyone away to a team that probably won't be? It would literally just flip the script.

Also naturally i'm higher on Lafreniere and Kakko, but I can't really argue with you guys about it just yet without looking dumb.... But i'll be pulling receipts in a few years!

Can't decide what I hate most in this game, the refs, the NBC announcers, the tb fan base or the fact that I still don't feel comfortable going into the third up 2.
