Metroid Dread was dogshit. There is an entire thread you can read expressing exactly why by many people.

Metroid Dread would have been fine if it wasn’t for the EMMI sections. I haven’t watched this trailer yet.

Thinking way back to the days of NES....

I had a Game Genie. And I used to use that all the time on different NES games. Did the game programmers have to include the cheats that the game genie would then allow access to? Or did the Game Genie people somehow intercept the games signal and changed it so the game thought something different than what it was intending to do? I'm curious about that.
The CPU is constantly reading/writing to/from the cartridge addresses. If someone knows the address of things like number of lives, or even something else tied to values like health then you can easily intercept and modify those values. That's essentially what the game genie was doing. Intercepting data, changing it, and making sure it passed valid data back.

I did look up a bit because I was curious how it did stuff for so many games. I guess the company really did disassemble source for games and use logic analyzers to figure this stuff out. Im sure a few developers helped them out, but it seems like a crazy engineering thing to pull off in the 80s/90s.

Hmm, so far I'm down for OOT remake, Xenoblade, Kirby, Romancing Saga 3. I'd get the Personas but they're probably going to be game keys and I'm not a fan of those.

Might grab Monster Hunter for some local multiplayer.

Awesome info. Thanks for the knowledge.

It would have been /passable/ without EMMI

The slide to action and rougelike is what is not wanted or needed

Look at this new metroid and the new castlevania - neither know why "Metroidvania" became a thing and why they were so popular… they want to be Dead Cells - and that is NOT metroidvania

I agree and disagree. I thought it was leaning into some sort of stupid souls like rather than roguelike. But I don’t play a lot of them. I don’t think you leveled up or got stronger in Dread. It was just a bad 2-D parry only souls like to me.

Nabbed the Special Edition for Metroid Ravenous + the 2 other Amiibo's on pre-order, the game looks really good. My Samus shrine will be happy.

Didn't see any E.M.M.I.-like gimmicks in the trailer, but I'm kinda expecting this time there'll be some kind of hunger gimmick where you have to feed on creatures often.

Did I miss an announcement saying that the Stellar Blade Steelbook was a Best Buy exclusive? Wal-Mart finally put up their pre-order this morning but it's only the generic case, and Amazon / Gamestop still have no listing for the game at all.

I saw a side view shot that looked super similar to the E.M.M.I. fights. Looks like it was around 1:20 of the trailer. Either way I fucking loved Dread(minus the soundtrack which was oddly subpar for a Metroid game). Can't wait.

picking up the new fire emblem game tomorrow, pretty excited i really enjoyed three heroes (played through only once though heard you need multiple play throughs for full story) and this seems like more-ish

Even after having seen plenty of footage and talk about this game the beginning is still all fresh to me and isn't what I expected at all. I've only ever really played Awakening and loved that game. I tried to play 3 houses like 3 times and just couldn't get past the school shit.

I can't put this game down.

If you have a switch 2 this game is a no brainer.
