Mario Odyssey is what I've been playing since I finished Mario Kart. Had like 130 Moons from the past, already gained around a hundred just from a few hours of playing, so I'm not far from the 250 goal. Might go for 500, got time before the DK game. Seems like the game just rains Power Moons on you at every turn. I used to like the Mario 64 system of every star being a big deal / its own sub-level, but finding them everywhere is interesting in its own way.
Right, it's like the 59 trillion kurok seeds in TotK. It's so god damn many it becomes meaningless. Is it a cultural thing? Do Asians jerk off doing the same repetitive shit over and over?

been playing xenoblade 2 on my switch 2 and it runs pretty good, no FPS dips or anything but visually it looks like a 15 year old game still

still glad i picked one up since it looks like the price may go up around the holidays if vietnam gets a perma 20% tariff

Speaking of xenoblade….never touched them. Worth picking them up? I may have one of them on a hacked WiiU. Been trying to pick up a few of the switch games I hadn’t grabbed. Nintendo seems to Disney vault some games and I’m still a sucker for physical copies.

I"d get Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition. It's a remaster of the first game which was originally a Wii title. Starting with the first game sets up the rest of the franchise and gets you introduced to the combat which gets iterated on in the later titles.

they are ultra weeb games mixed with 2000s style MMO simple quests (but all single player, no multiplayer at all). i kinda like it, but its definitely an acquired taste. I tend to get bored playing after an hour or so in a session, which is honestly perfect for me as i'm baby sitting grandkids.

Honestly that’s the worst I’ve heard anyone say about them. I typically am not a fan of the art style.

First one is the best, then second, then the third. Second one definitely plays into the anime shit the most. Third one has a literal alphabet villain roster and is pretty "meh" from a story standpoint. Battle mechanics are cool but since you have a permanent 6 party team + a guest you'll face roll almost everything.

What about this Chronicles X one I also see?

I almost just blanket bought them all but I’m going to pick up the first anyway.

It’s seriously crazy how much MMO’s from 2005 through 2018 destroyed me touching a lot of games. Plus I oddly didn’t game much in college at all besides d2 and some Unreal. I bought N64 and basically played the Zelda’s, Mario, Mario kart, and Mortal Kombat 3 I think on it. I completely missed the PS1 and PS2 tbh.

I missed chronicles X and need to play through it now that it's on the switch. If I recall I read it was disconnected from the xenoblade trilogy and focused more on the gears or whatever they call them, and the exploration.

It was very disconnected from the main 3, it released inbetween 1 and 2 and thats prolly the order i would play it in as well If you had never played any of them, but catching it at any point wont make or break anything due to it being pretty far out of the main arc. Story wasnt much but it was pretty cool on the wiiU as it made great use of the gamepad. Combat wasnt as intuitive as the main series but i felt it was worth the money and had lots of optional content if you wanted to min max stuff.

Is it worth picking one of these up these days? I had a switch many years ago and got bored of it so I sold it. I don't care much for mario/zelda/mariokart/supersmash

ain't no fucking good games only for the switch 2 yet and likely won't be for at least a year or two. only if you spend a crazy amount of time needing a handheld (train, travel, doctors etc) and don't want a steam deck

on the other hand its likely tariffs will increase the price of the switch 2 in USA later this year and there probably won't be a hardware upgrade for 3+ years so if you think you'll eventually get one, might as well get it while the price is stupid expensive instead of insanely stupid expensive

No. Games like that are the only reason to get one.

If you want to do mobile gaming steamdeck or a competitor is where it’s at. Steamdeck is awesome if you already do pc gaming or emulators.

switch 2 (switch jew more like) is expensive, but it's good for a family who has little kids and you want the kids to have a library of funcitonal games to play. Mobile games are an abyss of your kid becoming a zombie retard, random viruses, and micro/add clickies they need help with. Steam is functional with steamlinksteamdeck but kids won't be able to navigate a text based game selection interface with 3000 0hourplayed games in it.

switch1/2 exclusives are pretty far between imo. you have your zeldas which you may or may not llike depending on if you like actual zelda games or open world checkbox extravaganza and broken weapons. Unicorn overlord is pretty dope. the mario games are good...but they're only mario games.

re-released classics are cool to play on it with the acutal controlers of their day, or the simplicity of how well it works. can sit on the sofa and play all the snes/n64 with the kiddos we can stomach.

windwaker is the best switch 2 game so far.

The BC also isn't quite as bad as expected either. Games with a 30 fps lock don't see any improvements besides load times, except for the REALLY shit optimized ones that couldn't even manage that low of a bar. Which unfortunately does include the Xenoblade games to varying degrees (and contrary to what everyone was hoping, the "inactive" 60 fps mode that XCX has does not work on Switch 2 yet). Pretty much all of the Legend of Heroes series that's available on Switch targets and fails to actually hit 30 consistently as well. Astral Chain too.

Games that tried to do 60 fps but really only ended up hitting 40 with terrible frame pacing to go with it are what really shine with BC. From what I've heard pretty much everything that has a 60 fps or uncapped mode is actually going to hit it on the Switch 2. Sadly there's nothing it can do about the graphics being subpar because of trying to hit a completely unrealistic target on the OG Switch, and it doesn't look like there's much interest in making Switch 2 patches for older games.

Unfortunately for me, that means there's like one game I want to play on the Switch 2 that was completely unplayable on Switch (Bayonetta 3), but everything else I have backlogged on Switch is of the '30 fps, but occasionally drops to ~25' and it's definitely not worth $500+accessories just for that.

Yeah it reminds me of going from PS5 to PS5 Pro, some games can really see improved performance, but too often devs would force a 30fps lock on their games for the old hardware and it basically ruins any benefits the improved hardware could have.

I don't even see the purpose in 30fps locks, seems really dumb, but I guess there's some nerds out there who would piss and moan about an unstable frame rate even if it was an improvement so we can thank them for this.

Well they both suck but terrible frame pacing is usually a lot worse than a 30 fps lock.

The OG Switch didn't have the luxury of a 120Hz/40fps mode, and even the Switch 2 kind of fucks that up because Nintendo was too cheap to put HDMI 2.1 into the dock and that means VRR only works in handheld. That's actually a big reason to not buy one now and hope they aren't still retarded when the hardware refresh happens, along with the shitty battery size/life at launch which should improve just like Switch->'new' Switch did.
