Yeah, you'll just load your save and all the gates that are locked now will be open.

Related, YouTube people are fucking weird. So many videos showing how to exploit past the locked spirit runes to kill Raiju now and get gear way above your level and people just gobble it up like it's not pants on head retarded to do that to ruin the $70 game you're about to buy...

When they say the save data carries over, do they mean I can skip all this shit on Friday? Would really rather not have to do all the stuff in the demo again.
That’s what carrying your data over means. It moves your save to the main game as if that was your main game save.

Had no idea that was some later boss. Saw him from the roof and spent 20 minutes running around trying to get up there. Even aggro’d him by hitting him with arrows hoping to pull him down but he leashed. Finally gave up and moved on with things. Pretty funny, tried climbing those hay stacks for a bit but didn’t consider glitching into them.

Final Fantasy: Stranger of Paradise had a similar thing where you could farm a high-level Marlboro or something and get super-strong equipment drops, breaking the game before too long.

Didn't the same people make that game as this game? The Samurai/Ninja switching in Nioh 3 is literally the classes in SoP. Outfit changes and everything.

I beat Sekiro, Stranger of Paradise, and Wo Long. All of them took time/patience/focus, but were very doable. And yet Nioh kicks my ass. It feels like I'm just missing something fundamental about these games. I slash and dodge, slash and dodge. A bit like Souls, which I guess you're not supposed to play like. The dodge button being moved around from Souls is super annoying and there's no way to change it.

Main issue is that the enemies have tons of poise. I resumed my game about a third to halfway through Nioh 1 and I have an electric katana that looks awesome, but I can barely win any fights. Enemies have hyperarmor-like poise so I can't stall them for a moment, I have to try and get behind them so I can bash away for a couple seconds before getting out of the way.

The other main issue is that enemy attacks have insane tracking. I have to wait until they strike and then dodge super-fast because if I simply move out of the way of an incoming attack, they spin around mid-attack and track me with it. I can only really strike between enemy attacks, and only for a second because of their poise.

Basically every fight is a huge struggle and it feels like I'm playing wrong. I might have to give up on this series (yet again) but I really don't want to. Nothing has any "weight" like a Souls game and I don't feel like I've got a gameplay loop to adhere to (like Sekiro I'm trying to break enemy posture, Wo Long I'm looking for big attacks to parry....Nioh is just zip around, stick and move, feel super weak at all times).

If anything does succeed in hitting me back, my character has basically no poise and gets knocked around like a ragdoll; it's common for me to lose 75% of my health in one enemy attack if they land a couple hits before I can get away. I can take about 3 hits, maybe 4, from even trash enemies, and that's with the best available armor on. Level 54, and I'm doing missions that are labeled low-40's.

Try axe, do the quick quick strong combo, dodge through them or block. Repeat when KI allows. Eventually you get a ton of Ki damage you stagger everything but a boss with that combo.

Also.. get gud.

The main problem is I'm not sure what gitting gud actually entails with Nioh. What does the game expect from me?

Sekiro I had to git gud at deflecting and breaking posture, Wo Long I had to git gud at parries at precise times, Bloodborne I had to git gud at rolling through attacks.

What the hell does Nioh want me to git gud at? I stick and move and do chip damage until the enemies hyperarmor through an attack and hit me 2-3 times and I die.

I'll try that axe thing. I should have lots of skill points saved up since I grinded like ten levels all specifically to raise magic power. My spells are great and make short work of bosses, but I only have two charges of everything and no fucking clue how to raise the charges to 4 and 6. Says they're locked behind ????? Mission which is really helpful.

Rajaah Rajaah You can do all those things, deflecting and perfect dodge is a thing. All enemies have long delays post combos, even most bosses have large openings. 99% of the time dodging towards the enemy is the right move. Like Sekiro this game rewards hyper aggression just need the stats to not run out of Ki.

Can also use the quick summon attack even when out of KI yourself. It does good stagger and pretty sure has invul frames. L1 square on controller.
Last tip is get HP to 2k+ as quickly as possible, HP goes a very long way in Nioh games.

Nice, I'll give all that a try.

Is Nioh 2 easier to get into, in terms of giving tutorials and whatnot? Was considering giving that a go and if I figured out what I'm doing there, I could swing back to Nioh 1. Probably not a good idea.

My main problem with Nioh is definitely the button settings. Everything is moved around to something non-intuitive. I wanted attacks on R1 and R2, so Ki Pulse is like, L2 or something and block is Square, dodge is X... If dodge was on circle and block was on L1, like every other game in the genre, I'd probably slip up a lot less.

Working Ki Pulses in while dodging/blocking/attacking is a bit too much for my brain at this point, too. Easier for me to just back off.

Here's what I had for stats resuming where I left off. Level 54 now and added 3 points to the Magic stat, otherwise the same. Buffs and debuffs last a pretty long time with this much magic so it's probably good. Going to go with HP to get that over 2000 and then whatever increases axe attack. Might have to re-spec some points out of Heart, which I assume I got mainly for the electric sword I'm using, unless axes use it. Hopefully I have a really good axe already.

In the third province, about four areas in (so probably almost done with it). IIRC the third province is where things started getting weird and the first run petered out.

It's amazing how similar these games are to Stranger and Wo Long, two of my favorite games from the past half decade. Some areas could be lifted right out of Wo Long, along with enemy and item placement.

Both games are worth playing in my opinion, but I would probably just do Nioh 2 then 3. Are you playing on PC or console? With Steam input you can setup all kinds of shit on the controller to your liking.

I think if you’re going to do a full series playthrough it’s always best to just start with the first. Typically sequels add more and more stuff and QoL which can make going backwards not as enjoyable.

Yeah, that was my thought here. It seems like Nioh adds more and more as it goes on.

PS5 remaster version. Looks really freaking good. I can't tell the FPS difference between 4K Mode and 120 FPS Mode, so I wonder if those are holdovers from the PS4 version and they're all 120 now, or my brain just can't process past a cerain FPS.

Any spell suggestions from anyone, besides the obvious Sloth? I've got the health regen spell (great) and the lightning weapon enchant (not sure how much damage it adds, but it lasts a while). Two charges of everything, because I don't know how to unlock 4 charges (they all have "beat ????? Mission" in the requirements, which is super not useful)

I dont remember Nioh 1 but I suspect it works the same.... its not so much about the damage with the elemental stuff, at least later in the game its about stacking 2 different debuffs on the stuff you are killing so you do a ton more damage to them

Getting some very good reviews on YouTube, sounds like first playthrough anywhere from 50-80+ hours, and typical nioh ng+. Nioh 1 and 2 are some of my all time most played games with ER & CP2077.

Got a Bandit's Axe from the store, fused it with the best hammer I had to bump up the attack 10% or so, re-specced and moved points from Heart to HP and Str. Got over 2000 HP now and working on Str next (it's 13 which is a meh downgrade but I figured HP was more important). Learned the High Stance skills like the R2 combo-ender and the charged R2. Pretty much destroying everything now, nice to actually have something that smashes enemy poise. Also the attack power with 13 Str is just about where the electric sword (BIS weapon currently) was with 24 Heart, so it'll be back where I was in a couple levels, and then blow past the electric sword on damage output. Has a +6% High Stance Damage bonus on the axe which is pretty solid too. I think I'm actually on the right track now. TY for the input here

I used tonfas and axe to kill him. I just tonfa quick spam him until he did a red attack, making sure to never get greedy and always RB'ing behind him with tonfas. Once he does the red attack, parry into high stance axe combo. That was usually enough to stagger him. Spirit form in the mist realm (sorry I can't remember what the actual names of things are in this game). Took about 20 tries but finally got him that way. The only way I got close is if spirit form was up.

It's been a while since I played Nioh, but IIRC those are the dojo training missions, so it'd probably be either Way of Onmyo Adept or Veteran. Also, you need to have a certain level of Magic stat to do the missions, but it's low, like 10-15.

Nioh 3 at least makes it easy and just says exactly what mission, scroll, or crucible weapon you need to unlock arts.

You can eventually get 99 STA build and a weapon mod that scales A+ with stamina. Leaving you with best armor and insane damage, then you can just face tank as you spin to win. this is a starter version of what that is like in Nioh 2, you can eventually tweak it and do some insane status effects combos as well. Pushing into this type of stuff

That said Axe/Sta will allow you to beat the game with ease, then you can either farm the build to perfection or mess with other weapon types.
