I've gotta imagine it's all to make the next game meet expectations.
They're also likely using NMS stuff to test ideas for the new game as well as how the implementations go. Light no Fire will probably have similar seamless moving multiplayer bases(caravans or whatever since the setting is fantasy).

Edit: Didn't take long

Think I'll reinstall this, that feature looks like a hell of a lot of fun.

I'm getting incredibly hyped for Light No Fire.

It's pretty slick. I'm just starting out, but it is certainly going to be a game that I play on the regular.

I bought this twice, as my PS5 Pro doesn't have a disc drive and I owned a hard copy.

Glad to support these crazy bastards. All this free content lol. This is an amazing game now, and doubly so in VR.

I've bought this game on xbone, PS5 and PC, money well spent.

The new shipbuilding is really cool but it hurts how bad the base ones are compared to my godly sentinel ship. I'm going to have to do a hell of a lot of component farming to make it usable it seems.

My most anticipated game in the near'ish future is Light No Fire, so any mention of it gets me hard....errrr, I mean, pretty excited.

I haven't played this since its initial fix after the awful launch, really thinking I'm going to pick it up soon to experience the last 6 years of changes.

The redneck salvage update lol

That's pretty cool, although seems like you have to really commit to a planet to make use of this

That's kind of been the challenge the whole life of this game. The "plot" and main gameplay intends for you to explore the galaxy, make your way to the core, and keep finding new places. Then they put in decent base building, farming/mining/production loops, and surface based gameplay like this salvage. Don't get me wrong, it's all done very well, and the ability to put a lot of things on your freighter and teleport easily back to a fixed base makes it feel pretty cohesive.

In any case, they are a great model of long term game support and I'm looking forward to LNF. There will have to be a balance there too between building up your home area but with enough travel modes to make the massive massive world a draw and not just biomes that are technically joined but unlikely to ever meet.
