the franchise was in decline by then. the golden age was the 60s and 70s.

Was in decline but this is over casual fans heads. 15 years is when Craig took over.

That's when they gave Bond a new character.

It was the first Bond to depart from the source material. Bond was never a thug.

Early 2000s had a lot of spillover influence from the martial arts / gunfight trends. Everything from Art of War, Bourne, Kiss of the Dragon to Rush Hour, Equilibrium, Matrix sequels, Kill Bill to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, District B13, Punisher. Then we got Casino Royale same year as Miami Vice and Smokin' Aces.

Aside from massive overpriced budgets what "style" are we in now?

i always saw him as the "new Bond" because he was a departure from the traditional Bond, but people liked him, so what the hell do i know.

Overly realistic and pretentious.

Far too many movies take themselves too seriously and end up looking retarded to anyone with any knowledge about how the world actually works.

Think John wick, without the understanding that they know they are basically a over the top parody.

Not to be pedantic but he was Japanese (American).

My father met him when he was presented with a signet ring by him at a karate contest he took part in back in the 60s.

At the end of the day you know its retarded bullshit because if this was just a random spy movie with a black female lead it would bomb horribly.

Again these people cant create anything. SJW faggots are the most unimaginative, incompetent retards on the planet. The ONLY way they can succeed is by bringing people down to their retarded level. Hence ruining Bond instead of creating their own franchise.

This kind of cheesy crap is exactly what I dont want to see.

I've seen all the bonds too, blah blah blah

The Daniel Craig era is by far my favorite. No shitty gimmicks, no cheesy one liners, no faggy gadgets.

Just decent storylines, character arcs that span multiple movies and sweet ass action sequences.

Howay man, the storylines in the new movies are fucking awful bordering on absurd.

Bro, did you forget when Roger Moore went to a fucking space station in less than 20 years from when the first Bond movie was released in 1962?

Literally all 4 of the Craig movies, even the absurd SPECTRE have more realistic and believable storylines than like 80% of all bond movies.

I didnt say they were amazing, I said they were decent. And they are better than anything Moore put out story-wise and better than most of Brosnan and Connery output.

I'll be honest, I grew up on the old Bond's and thought they were amazing at the time, I loved the magnitude of Moonraker despite it not aging well. I try to watch them now though and I struggle with how shit they are.

Saying that, I think the Craig storylines have been pretty turgid as well. I'd sooner they just parked the franchise and do something similar to Bourne or if they want to go the comedy route give me another True Lies.

What I liked in James Bond movies were these cheesy oneliners, the over the top action, the gadgets, the women, the russians, etc. When they removed that from Craig's movies, it turned into generic movies., and not very good ones.

A space station you go to via space shuttles was belivable in the 70s and actually achieved a decade later with no less than the exact design of the shuttle somehow being 100% correct. The laser guns were a miss though and the station was too grand for what we've actually done. It's still awesome.

A giant mirror in space that reflects a giant destructive beam of light capable of destroying the entire Korean DMZ but you can outrun it in an invisible car wasn't believable in the 00s and isn't belivable now.

A spooky communications station in an exposed crater in a desert is absurd for different reasons, not least that in the 60s the guy had a hollowed out volcano lair so that satelites couldn't detect him, but now he's out in the open and every building is next to a flammable gas tank?

Even if all these things are silly, at least pre Craig they were interesting and awesome. Casino Royale had a great story but the rest are just boring. Skyfall ripped off fucking Home Alone for a finale.

OH AND THEY DID THE AUSTIN POWERS 3 LONG LOST BROTHER PLOT. WHAT THE FUCK.

I hope we can get past this SJW shit and circle back around. Bring back good ol' racist southern sheriff.

And they brought him back for The man with the golden gun, in Thailand. There's a bit where he yells at the Thai thugs chasing bond

"If you pointy heads would get out of them P-jamas, you wouldn't be late for work!"

Yeah I was mostly checked out after Quantum of Solace. That..... thing.... is not James Bond 007. Just, no. Hiddleston can do action (Skull Island), but really has better things to do. Same with Hardy. Craig worked because he was portraying the early era Bond from Casino Royale. Honestly, after watching The Gentlemen I think either Hunnam or Collin Ferrell would be a good fit, though Ferrell is probably a little old.
