Can you publish under a female name/identity, would that make it easier?
Ha I considered that for a beat.

That would only work for submissions, and only 1/2 of the equation. My books don’t mention anything about identity politics or progressivism, don’t have girl bosses, and don’t have females in swat or spec forces roles, so there are two thresholds to pass for modern publishing.

1) don’t be a straight white male

2) write about what they want you to write about, even if it doesn’t sell.

The exception would be if you’re already famous like Glenn Powell or Ryan Reynolds or something. Otherwise, even if you do get a publishing deal, you’ll have to do all your own marketing and pay for your own marketing. At that point, might as well go indie.

My work isn’t left wing or right wing, it’s just not progressive/intersectionalist (aka fascist?). More like first season of Star Trek (1966) levels of acumen and meritocracy. Yes. They had a female Yeoman, but it’s not like she won the day by beating up the bad guys and disrespecting the captain.
