That's the current thought, but the truth is nobody knows for certain. Gamers Nexus pretty well undermines Jay/Igor's conclusion about the adapter as a blanket issue, as it appears there are at least 3 different cables in the wild from AIB's/Nvidia themselves with different soldering set ups. Frankly, Nvidia should send new cables to everyone who owns a card at their own expense but I'm not sure we'll see that. We're also not even sure there is no issue with the new PSU's either, as we'd seen some testing showing some melt on the PSU side of the 12V cable which makes me think this may be something else entirely. There also aren't enough 3.0's in the wild paired to 4090's to get a good sense of whether that's a solution or not either I think. I ordered a cablemod cable, as I think that at the very least it will be better constructed than the adapter included with the Zotac but I have surety it's a fix to whatever this issue is....
I'm using mine and it appears to be good (I've been playing CODMWII non stop since Friday, so under load a good deal). I'd set the maximum draw at 75%, not sure if that's helping or not. That said, cards been awesome, quiet and cool, though I'm anxious to see what AMD comes out with this week - would have zero issue selling the 4090 and buying 7900XTX if rasterization is close and card is priced well.
