i've seen some prebuilt 4080 PCs from integrators too in the $2800-3k price range so resellers can't go nuts I assume. The flippers I hang out with in discord haven't touched the 4090, say with the fire socket shit its too risky to even try and eBay

so thanks Nvidia, your amazing technical skills have shut down a reseller market! lol

4080 seems a colossal waste of $ vs it's own internal competition (4090 and 3080). It should be $999 tops, with the 12gb card $799 or less especially compared to AMD's newest offerings. 4090 can be $1600 as it's kind of the enthusiast/Titan option for a niche market but Nvidia is out of their minds charging $1300 for their "mainstream gamer" card.

6900 XT 16GB were $670 this past week, Nvidia slapping 12GB on theirs is a joke just admit the whole 4080 16GB should be priced $799.

899 for the 4080 sounds reasonable, 999 would be okay, anything over that is a joke.

As usual GN does the best deep dive on a technical issue. TLDR: the cable issue is not from poor soldering but from poor clamp design; when the cable is partially inserted & at an angle the contact point changes from the tip of the pin to one of the high resistance lines which quickly melts the connector.

To reiterate: if anyone here has an rtx 4090 and is using the extension cable, all you need to do to avoid damage is make sure it is plugged all the way in. The cable can look like it is snug but isn't, more so than other power cables.

They effectively killed any generational improvements as the cost/performance ratio is the same as the 3080.
Almost nobody got a 3080 at $699. It was arguably extremely underpriced and had incredibly low availability.

Depends on if you could get an FE card first hand. Even then, $900 was the max for the high end air cooled models.

I got lucky on a BB drop and got an Evga base 3080 for $730. The whole generation was such a shitshow for regular gamers.

How are 3xxx prices now. I don't need a 4000x, fuck I mainly play 20 year old games, but occasionally new things I'd like to run decently. But I would like an upgrade. Are the 3xxx cards low in price now that 4 series is coming out? What would someone suggest for a good 3070 or 3080. Or are prices not low enough to warrant getting one of them over a 4xxx

Unless you're playing at 4k I think the 4090/4080 is a little bit of overkill. Only scenario would be if you have a 240hz monitor and play a twitch skill game like Apex Legends. Just like previous generations the sweet spot will be a 4060ti at 1440p.

I see tons of 30xx cards go in and out of stock on newegg, i think some of the weirder chinese brands have never gone out of stock. Yeah, the FEs are harder to find but do pop in on best buy every now and then. Its also especially easy to buy a prebuilt 30xx PC from pretty much every maker.

Just monitor r/buildapcsales honestly its a bit overwhelming with how many deals are flowing right now, I get flummoxed thinking about combos of mobo, PSU, CPU, GPU, cooler, RAM, etc.

This 4080 from zotac has been in stock all day, but its ludicrous to pay $1400 for this when just $200 more will get you a 4090

Means they give them far more money to nvidia then they should and figured this was an easy sale. Why care about prices if people still gobble them up. Just make sure to keep using the words "limited" and "one time opportunity" and consumers think they have to buy it or never have a chance again.

I have a 3080 12gb I just built into a machine just so I would have a platform for a 7900XTX. I wish it was a 6900XT so I could give Nvidia negative dollars after their time machine scalper priced 4000 series greedswaggle. I bought a 7700x to pair it with when really I should have gotten a 13600k but my Intel hatred is so strong I couldn't bring myself to do it. Microcenter asshat totally clowned the build but that is more of an individual lazy wageslave thing than a MicroCenter thing, since my last trip there was aces.

They have DLSS and RT; I think next gen they are going to get buried and no one will shed a tear after these price gouging antics.
