Huh, this was in English for me on X, my bad.


A Russian man bought an RTX 5070 Ti graphics card for nearly 90,000 rubles (about $1,000 USD) from the Wildberries store, and since the order was expensive, the man refused to leave the store until he could open the box in front of the store employees, with his friend filming it in case of any surprises.

And here it turns out that the man's fear was justified: when opening the box, he found that the card had been replaced with a two-liter bottle of water to make its weight close to that of the card, so any ordinary person wouldn't suspect the box's weight, but if he'd gone home and opened it there, it would have been hard for him to prove it.

The man did this because of a similar incident that happened in the same store, where a man bought an RTX 5080 card and opened it at home to find that the card had been replaced with nutritional supplements, and now two months have passed without him getting the card or recovering his money, and even the police closed his complaint without a response.

This is a really old trick that's been happening for like 10-15years already. Every now and then you'll see a story like that pops up about buying on Amazon or Best Buy or whatever. The companies got too lazy so when they get a return they don't bother checking inside the boxes, they just check the weight and if it's the same, they re-package it to resell it, so some dickheads will order a card, take it, then replace it with rocks, bricks or anything heavy enough to trick the machines then send it back and get their money back.

All these companies would have to do is check the actual item if the price is superior to a certain amount but that'd require paying humans to do a job, and how would they afford their 24th yacht if they had to do such a thing.

Its nothing more than a tax write off for them. Actually prob a bonus people do this.
