Grabbing a 7900 XTX Red Devil for $839 during Thanksgiving sales was a wise course of action. They definitely fixed their hotspot temp issues so ironically memory junction is what runs hottest.

Even the 7900XTX is still $1,200+ it seems if you can find it in stock (I think the in-stock ones were $1,500 on eBay). Stuff is bonkers at the moment.

Damn, I'm glad I got mine when I did for $800 shipped from Amazon.

They’re probably more now but I bought a prebuilt CyberpowerPC unit with a 7900xtx, 4gb SSDs, 9800x3d for around $2200 a few weeks ago. Of course that only makes sense if you need an entirely new system. I was upgrading from a 2019 rig I bought.

I just waded into buying that without even knowing a lot about the current situation.

edit:

I just took a cursory look at the website and it appears to be $4-500 more now for a similar 7900xtx build. Jesus.

Placed an order for the 7900xt today on amazon, 1200 CAD total. Wild times.

Theres been a google trend surge in 7900 xt/xtx searches since the 5x launch; even tempted myself atm. The availability for the next AMD cards will be shit also.
Old chart but still; shows that even the 7900xt has 4k longevity.
Wonder how 3090 ti's in SLI compare? Might be a reasonable alternative if you don't have a 4000 yet and don't want to pay/wait for 5000s. (assuming the rest of your rig can accommodate them)
I feel lucky now that I grabbed a couple for $1100 when the price dipped just before the 4090 release, should hold me till the 6000s at least.

GPUs are nuts right now.

I was watching Primeagen working on messing around with an LLM yesterday and today and he was sourcing 3090s for it since he couldn't get 4090s or 5090s.

Today, someone impersonated him at a UPS store that one of his packages of a couple of cards was shipped to and stole it. Ended his stream abruptly after his wife called and reported the missing package.

Yeah, I posted above, I am thinking about building a whole new machine soon and was thinking about 9070 XT vs 7900 XTX; if I could get another 7900 XTX for $800ish, I would rather have that. Now with the buying frenzy, the world has gone mad and literally nothing is available for a good price. Hopefully AMD is making reams of 9070 XTs, because the cards have reportedly been at resellers for a while now, and can handle the demand if they test as good as they are rumored to be.

Plenty of Intel Arcs available
Unironically the best hope in the long run, but if Intel and this unit survives it's going to be a few more generations before they're really competing with AMD for mid tier. Though basic entry level I would definitely consider their newest cards.

ASUS Introduces ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 'Dhahab' OC Edition, The Most Premium RTX 5090 For The Middle East

ASUS brings a Middle East-exclusive ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card, exhibiting a strong gold accent and equipped with quad fans.

If the ASUS ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 LC edition isn't expensive enough for you, the new ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 Dhahab OC might offer you an authentic taste of luxury. Don't expect it to be noticeably superior to other custom RTX 5090 editions when it comes to performance, but rather, treat it as a piece of art for the affluent.

ASUS's ROG Astral RTX 5090 Dhahab is a Gold edition (not genuine Gold), as 'Dhahab' in Arabic means Gold. The heatsink shroud of the RTX 5090 Dhahab OC edition is Gold-plated, and the backplate features Middle Eastern elements, such as Arabic Calligraphy, Skyscrapers, and camels.

"The ROG Astral GeForce RTX™ 5090 Dhahab Edition is a celebration of the rapid evolution of the Middle East, featuring a unique skyline silhouette that signifies a transition from the sands to the skies. It also introduces ROG's first quad-fan design, coupled with a patented vapor chamber, increased heatsink fin density, a phase-change GPU thermal pad, towering default clock speeds, boosted power delivery, and more. These premium innovations – amplified by an eye-catching die-cast frame and metal GPU bracket – combine to deliver absolute performance that can handle even the most demanding gaming scenarios." - ASUS

ASUS hasn't revealed its pricing and availability yet, but expect it to cost a fortune and be exclusive to the Middle East.

Rumor has it that retailers like Microcenter are pissed because they have shelves full of 9070 XT cards they can't sell until march. Essentially making them a zero cost AMD warehouse.
Hopefully the rumors are true; has there been any leaked photos from the backshops of retailers? is what id like to see. Lets see them pallets worth

i got fucked, my main 3080ti gaming PC died today morning just endless bluescreens every reboot. got a ton of shit to deal with right now so no time to build out another great PC so just ran to costco and picked up whatever they had, ended up being some cyberpower prebuilt piece of shit with a 4070 super. i think its basically equivalent to a 3080ti but with DLSS3.

sucks since i was hoping to build out a new PC early next year with a 5080ti or something, i'll probably still do that and hand this off to a niece or nephew who wants to play Roblox in 4K but man setting up a new PC is still such a goddamn pain in the ass, its gonna take hours to config everything, get everything setup, move over my old drives, just on and on. Its still nowhere near the level of phones where it takes like 15 mins to dupe your entire old phone on a new phone.

its better I guess, between windows and chrome and dropbox and onedrive you definitely get back to all your data much faster but its the 10% extra customization you've done that will take so much extra time.

a prebuilt with a 4070 super was $1400 at costco (like $200 off), i'm sure there are better deals online but since i do everything from my desktop even waiting a few days sucks. in hindsight I probably should setup a laptop or mini PC to act as my main PC so I can quickly move to a new one easier, in the last few years I've just gotten used to getting rid of everything but a single gaming PC but it has harsh downsides as I found out today.

so yeah, if you are a "i do everything on one PC" it might be smart to think about diversifying to a mini PC/laptop for most stuff and a side gaming PC, its something I might do this year
