I just run 1440p w/ a 165 hz monitor at 1 ms latency.

I did try plugging my XSX up to my tv a few days ago (Sony X90J 4K 8 ms latency) and the latency was so noticeable I just switched back to my gaming monitor in my office.

Ok yeah at 1440p a regular 5070 would be fine - however you would have some options with controller latency with Nvidia Reflex and Boost. Auto Low Latency mode and such so it really all depends on what devices are in the chain. I have zero latency in my console set ups with ALLM/QFT support on my receiver, console, and TV along with variable refresh rate on all that.

If you never move to 4k (soonish) 5070 would work great for you. If you ever want that 4k option though 16gb+ cards are a must.

For me I also have a new 32" QD-OLED in the office but can also eArc to my home theater set up and have everything running perfectly.

Nice set up!

Yeah I dont have any plans on moving to 4K in the future. 1440p is perfect for my setup. The only thing I notice latency wise is Helldivers II for some reason (the only online game I play). If I use a controller for that, I have to plug it in otherwise theres a noticeable lag between input and response. All other games I dont notice any latency, though.

What OLED monitor do you run? I was looking at possibly upgrading eventually to an MSI or LG one and still running 1440p on it.

I went with the MSI 322URX because it supports display Port 2.1 (Along with the 5080) and can do lossless 4k - QD-OLED and it's amazing. True 240hz without compression with 4k 10 bit.

In the theater area I have a 65" C1 2022 OLED - which has HDMI 2.1 and supports ALLM and QFT and variable refresh at 120hz. When I bring my PC in there and connect I use a wireless Xbox controller over bluetooth and everything is still instant for latency.

I probably need to figure out what monitors I want to switch to now. I really think 1440 is more than enough, and I want to run 3 of the same monitor. I got the room for 3x32, but that might be a bit much. I haven't paid attention to the monitor game in a while now. Whats good?

It’s not rated very well but I bought 3 different monitors, including the nice LG gaming one everyone recommends. And ended up liking the HP Omen the best.

I run an HP Omen 32” 165 hz 1 ms latency at 1440p and it’s amazing. Nice, crisp, very bright at 1000 nits. Cost me $250 a few years ago.

to get nicer than that, you’d need to spend $800+ on an OLED 4K monitor. They don’t make OLED 1440p. But if that’s what you’re looking for, I’ve heard the LG OLED and the Alienware are amazing.

In a practical sense, could you pitch how the performance would differ between the two?

5070ti is the entry level card needed for decent FPS when playing a handful of games that employ heavy/full ray-traced/path-traced effects (Alan Wake 2, Indiana Jones, Black Myth Wukong, etc). AMD doesn't compete here and neither do slower NV cards. Outside of that, the difference is just performance that scales up and down the product line-up, with some cards under performing due to lack of VRAM.

I'll have to go take a gander at the OLEDs at my local computer shop to see if its worth it. Not a fan of 4k, but if the black colors are that much better it could be worth it. My current best IPS is LG and has really good blacks, so I dunno if I'm gonna be sold.

Yeah I dont fuck w/ ray tracing. Not worth the FPS hit.

I have an X90J tv that is amazing QLED tv. The LG C4 OLED TV does in fact look better. Is it $1000 better? I don't think so. But if they were within the same price, I'd go with the OLED.

A good ISP monitor like the HP Omen right now is $300, meanwhile the MSI OLED is $800+. Not sure if it's worth 2.5x the price of a normal monitor. Depends on if you've got the extra money to burn, but Im a less is more kind of guy. I'm after the best value rather than the top of the line. I'll switch to OLED on my next tv around 2032 and if I need a new monitor when name-brand OLED Monitors get down below $300 in a few years.

Hell, my 75" x90J 4K QLED was $1200 on a deep sale at Costco in 2022 ($1800 at Best Buy during the same weekend). Now-a-days you can get a 75" Sony 4K QLED of equal quality for $850.

I use a 42" LG OLED for my desktop display. Over the course of ~40 years (jesus fucking christ) of computer gaming, it's about the most transformative single piece of gear I ever bought. But yeah, at 4K you need all the VRAM you can get your hands on unless you're okay with cranking down/switching off a lot of graphical settings, so prepare your anus accordingly.

Yea, I think I'm very likely to side with the OLED, but 3x 4k monitors seems like it might set my computer on fire. Maybe I can just stick to IPS in the wings.

Can you send a picture of your setup? I'm wondering how big your desk is to have 3x32" monitors side-by-side.

The LG C4's have 0.1 ms latency. That's definitely going to be my next tv. Hell, might even upgrade to a 42" monitor if it works out. Can you post a pic of your setup? Would love to see what it looks like.

My brother has 3 monitors, a 32", and then two smaller ones on the wings. His room is a mess but his battle station looks like a starfighter cockpit lol.

That's fucking Ai, too damn clean to be real!
Where's the food, keys used until they are worn down, and layers of jizz to give a nice shine.

Also, I'm really triggered by keyboard trays and drawers on desks. I like to be free to slide my chair anywhere.

Keyboard up top means I'm too close to the big ass screen and speakers....wasn't fully a fan at first but I'm 100% used to it now.

And the crew of hot Venezuelan maids (well there's one sloppy ham beast who joins once in a while) do their work every Friday, so the Cheetos dust and jizz can only pile up so much.

I had an Asus XG43UQ 43' monitor in the same setup and went back to 34'. 40' is too large if you are sitting directly in front of it. You have to turn head left and right and tilt up and down worse than watching a tennis match. Was really annoying.

LG C4 in 42". This is the way.

Once you go OLED everything else looks like shit. I had a cheap Walmart Hisense 75" LCD in my living room and the screen was so bad. I was happy when it shit the bed after 2 years. Just upgraded that to a 77" LG B4 with a PS5 Pro and it's incredible.
