I've not been keeping up on the 5 series but I'm seeing 5090s popping up in stock for more than 7 seconds at places, so of course the upgrade bug is being a bit of an asshole. I game at 4K with a 4090, and the only reason I'm even mildly considering the upgrade is that I can sell my card used for more than I bought it for and net out to roughly $1000 out of pocket for a 5090. Of course that's not exactly chump change, and while the 5090 benches appreciably better at 4K I wouldn't call it a dramatic difference. I'm also not thrilled with the higher power draw both at idle and under load and that the card could possibly bang up against the limits of my 1000w power supply. Waiting for the 6 series is the correct answer, yes? (assuming tariffs haven't turbo-fucked things even further by then)

Yea, seems the margin is dropping down to about a 1000$ on these cards for scalpers, which is probably entering the is this worth it space. Fuck scalpers, so I guarantee they are getting chargebacks left and right along with.. I dislike the word "scammer" here, so lets say financially problematic clientele.

I saw an unopened 5080 in the wild, but apparently it had been lost in some best buy bureaucracy for months and they weren't allowed to sell it or anything else. Maybe I'll eventually see that 5090.

Even if availability was fixed, I think the power supply issues /standard for the higher end cards would push me off.

A 5070Ti (or maybe, maybe, a 16GB 5070 Super) are the only cards I'd buy as emergency fill-ins if my current card dies until we get more details on next gen, at least 18 months away.

Is that really going to be cheaper than building it myself? I've built many computers over the years so not worried about that. Typically it was always cheaper, but I haven't looked into it lately.

Not doubting you, but if I can even save a couple hundred bucks it is worth it to me.

There's usually a $400-$600 premium on a pre-built, depending on the specs, who you're getting it from, etc.

The $500ish premium I paid on my Starforge PC was well worth the cable management, lack of hassle with initial boot, already having the latest BIOS, XMP + Smart Access Memory enabled, etc.

I missed that one somehow. But Southern California is still so far away from me that it might as well be another state.

I forgot to look into Starforge stuff, because I heard good things. And I'll admit, my cable management might as well be nonexistent; but I'm the only one that really sees it, so I don't give a shit once it is all working.

I bought that card for now, mainly because I can drive a couple of miles and return it if I choose, but I'll be bummed if I decide to buy it next week and it isn't available. So it was worth just grabbing it, even if I change my mind.

When I priced out mine it was the same price. Give it a shot with their builder tool on their website and then compare the price to the Powerspec - solid components and very glad I went with the Powerspec.

Btw I saw any the RGB case is cheaper. You can disable the RGB IF you buy an option argb controller. They're just nickel and diming people

$2499 + 279.99 for another 2tb and 89.99 for 64gb total - = $2867 and you don't need to build it. Buy the 2tb there with Ram and they will install it all for free.

Although 64gb ram isn't getting you anything in gaming. 32gb would be fine. add another 2tb drive $2778.99 - save $128 and some change and comes with Windows 11 Pro, no bloat, and all you have to do is update the BIOS and video card drivers.

Edit I had my choice between this or the 7800 X3D with 5080 and did that instead for $300 more.

EDIT: Oh, and my 6 year old computer has 32GB, I gotta upgrade! For real though, I don't mind another hundred bucks to double it.
