Prebuilt while avoiding possible stress/time with building and issues that crop up, also have another advantage these days in getting GPUs closer to MSRP.

Where as GPU stand alone are almost all at inflated prices and find one at close to msrp is luck.

I enjoy building them. But If I had a quality place near me that had prebuilt without all the bloat, cheap parts stuck here and there, I would definitely think about going that route, especially as like I said the GPU situation these days.

Since if the place was near, you can simply drive over if an issue, instead of relying on RMA/Shipping etc.

Yep. I avoided pretty much other prebuilt brands. But Powerspec is exclusive to Microcenter. You can ask about the parts list too. They use good components in my opinion. I’m completely satisfied with it.

Void Void but seriously if you are not using this for professional video editing there isn’t any reason to go to 64gb. Also note that AM5 has this weird issue when you fill all the banks. So you’ll only want to have 2 32gb not four 16gbs if you do decide to go that route.

ya, these comp build gurus on youtube are saying that 32gb is enough, but they don't understand that this is going to be my comp for the next 10 flippin' years. I've never upgraded shit and I'm not going to start. In the mid 2030s, when we have coal-powered hoverboards, i'll build a new comp to replace this new one. I'm tempted to do 128gb ram and maybe the 48gb intel gpu that's going around the rumor mill.



The next few months should be interesting

I went with 2x16GB in my 2019 build and back then people gave me shit saying 16GB was good enough. I don't get too worried about how people feel about that though.

I do a lot of guitar recording and other music stuff where I appreciate all the headroom.

yea, two of my systems were running with 2x16gb each, then i combined all 4x16gb and bought 2 new 2x32gb for the htpc. anyone recommend 32gb in this year is stupid when the price difference to 64gb is negligible, while the potentional for huge gains and future proof is amazing.

Five years? Who knows. Doubtful knowing the state of development of the industry for the next five years. Professional video editing, sure. Crunching? Possibly. Games? zero fucking difference for the next decade.



It’s cheap anyway so the argument is stupid really. 90 bucks on a 3300 dollar rig is a pair of Sox. But you still won’t see Jack shit for performance gains in games for a long fucking time.

No shit, when your video card costs as much as a used car, fill the fucking ram up. I'm running 96 and this computer is (jesus christ!) like 8 years old.
(ofc, that's still only like 4.5 chrome tabs...)

Definitely check the motherboard memory list before sticking in 4x16gb sticks because most will not support 4 double sided ram modules and you end up actually losing speed over 2x16gb sticks. This is not a "bigger number=better" situation.

Memory controllers on AM5 (and intel) at DDR5 handling all four banks at optimized speeds is broken as fuck. So someone coming in here thinking they can just add 2 16gb for $80 consuming all four banks is going to have stability issues until they downclock their speeds by half and now they completely gimped their PC for zero gain anyway. If people think bigger is better here better look at the true cost. Rip out your 2 16gb sticks and purchase 2 32gb, and now it’s a cost of about 190-220. At least then when you still notice jack shit from a performance perspective you didn’t make your performance notably worse with double your ram capacity.

I dont regret going 128gb for my new computer. Why settle for a mere 64? Upgrading to 3 digits was like 2 hours of OT, and I'm gonna use this computer for 5-6 years probably.

It's not just AMD, Intel is the same: Your guaranteed memory speed depends on the number of DIMMs. For Intel though it depends ... *drumroll* ... on the number of DIMM slots the motherboard has, not the slots you actually fill.

In most cases it will work regardless, but Intel does not guarantee the advertised speeds.

Makes me wonder how many people in here though just filled up their slots without even knowing the issues with doing that.

Quite literally they will get worse performance with 64gb RAM filling up all slots over 32gb 2 slots.
