I was joking, I dont want any of that shit.

Its not just the ram, everything is so damn expensive they'll likely kill most industries because people can barely afford anything right now.

It'll get worse when it starts replacing jobs. If youre not in a good place financially currently you're likely fucked your entire life at this point.

Not even close considering they are just over-sized LLMs still. *shrug* honestly we will probably be all long dead before it even becomes a problem.

Not a good time to have a component scare. Quit tarkov last night, this morning game wouldn't launch. Noticed no nvidea and 3080 icon read in hardware screen. Ultimately re down load thje app and re DL the driver and I was fixed but wtf. (no updates, computer on the whole night, wtf)

How do they plan on us using ai if no one can afford the hardware that requires it to run?
They don't. Sam just needs us to help stretch his piggybank until he can hit agi and take over the world.

It already is. Big execs are getting sold on how much money it will save, so then they go push their people to use their new ai tool to "be more productive" which results in expectations that people are either replaced or hiring is slowed/frozen until fewer people are forced to do more work. Anyone on low level customer service/support or creatives should be shitting their pants right now, and devs might not be getting replaced, but they're going to be getting squeezed.

Rent it "on the cloud" by the hour. Payments forever.

normally would be a shit deal but with current memory prices at insane levels this is a great PC that should be good for years. 9800x3d is near top end CPU, 5070 GPU kinda sucks (12gb vram) but would be fine for 1080p gaming, 32GB DDR is liquid gold at the moment.

$1500, $400 off i expect it to start going OOS soon

im trying hard to talk myself out of buying one just in case my current PC dies, trying to build out a decent system right now would cost $2k+ i think DIY. i'd have to see if any of the DDR i have in my PC would transfer over, i'd want 64GB memory

Lots of chatter Nvidia is cutting production, in part due to slower sales and in part due to memory costs - https://www.pcmag.com/news/nvidia-m...y-by-up-to-40-in-2026-due-to-memory-shortages

Specifically, cutting production on the lower end 16GB cards (5060Ti and 5070Ti), which frankly makes sense _for Nvidia_ - if they have to pay the same cost increase for a set of 16GB memory chips, they may as well limit that to the cards than net them the largest margins (namely the 5080). There _might be_ some better yields, meaning Nvidia/TSMC is producing more 5080 capable GB203s than having to sell them as 5070Tis, but Nvidia turning more GB207s to 5060s rather than 5060Tis suggests this is primarily memory cost based (assuming reporting is true).

Edit: To be clear, if you are on the fence, you might just want to bite the bullet and buy your 16+GB AMD / Nvidia card now before prices rise even more beyond Black Friday prices.

Man the whole system is super fucked because of all the AI shit. I've been putting off upgrading and now I basically need to BUY NOW or just get fucked for an inderterminate amount of time that is likely going to be much longer than the Covid fuckery because there's no way AI crashes that quickly and it's messing up every thing.

Was going to resell my old PC too but at this point it might be smarter to reuse the SSD and RAM rather than buy new stuff.

I bought a new pre built computer a few months ago with a 5070ti. Normally I would build but I had other issues. It's kind of like the old "It will be cutting edge, until the day they actually deliver it".

I'm not a big gamer like a lot here. I think before I consider an upgrade it will have to be driven by what games are available and what direction that takes.

Yeah I'm considering a 5070ti too cause the prices are actually around MSRP which is significantly lower than 5080 prices I'm seeing. I was thinking I'd wait next gen but Nvidia cutting production means their next cards are either going to be delayed or ship in ridiculously small numbers and not be available at all.

Guess I'll figure it out sometimes in January, need to get the money sorted and figure out if I'm upgrading my current PC(if it can even run a 50xx card, not too sure on the powersupply) or build a new one.
