You'll want to stay more or less north of Nags Head. Anything further south is hick town. Like Alabama by the sea hick town.

The Wright Brothers memorial in Kitty Hawk is interesting, and it's near some pretty impressive dunes you can climb. But yeah, basically go to the beach, cookout, drink, etc. That's what there is to do there.
