Litrpg is exactly what I thought too. However, at least this one doesn't turn Carl into a strong black lesbian, which is probably what would happen if they ever made that movie.

I'll probably check this out when kroenen tells me it is out on torrents!

It's just like a literary choose your own adventure type story? I remember those books as a kid and they were fun to read.

Genre of fantasy books where people from earth get sucked into a video game world. They’re pretty bad for the most part but Dungeon Crawler Carl is amazing. Some people love the genre. I’d say check out DCC…if you read or do audiobooks. It’s right up this boards alley with video games and raunchy fucked up humor.

Manga accurate first installment of what I would guess is going to be a few movies. It has a pretty big following in Korea.

If you are unfamiliar with the source material probably still worth a watch. First hour flies by.

Given how free Litrpg is with both violence, over the top humor, and sex it's hard to imagine being satisfied with any adaption of any of them. DCC would be terrible. They'd show the first kill and maybe a few of the first dungeon kills but most of it would be implied. I could go on about character screens etc but it'd be about as good as the Witcher series.

No, more like gamer fantasy without tons of sex. Just read book 1 of DCC, the writing isn't great in the first book but you'll get an idea of the genre. They are quick reads.

Yeah it just hits the story beats-- it's PG-13 comparatively. It's got a few Leo point meme moments, but it's sanitized for wide audience appeal. Not quite Disney, but leans that way more than leaning into the raw manga.

I was expecting the possibility of it being a Section 31 terribly unwatchable movie, shutting it off early, and it was far from that.

I've enjoyed the first half so far, and will watch the rest soon for sure. It is essentially litrpg on screen, as we all said before. As I said in the litrpg thread, it isn't amazing, but it is far from bad.

In DCC’s case Carl is essentially stuck in the Startrek holodeck with the saftey settings turned off, it’s not like he’s actually been sucked into a TV screen, I think this is actually kinda necessary to establish to draw people into the series
