Yeah I actually liked it. Though the Ryan Reynolds stuff ends up not being the real draw, it's more just Jeff Daniels and Emma Stone being pretty great. Daniels is really fantastic. It's got a vibe similar toThe Wackness,Wonder Boys, orSolitary Man(more the first two). Where a deeply flawed older guy takes a young kid under his wing sort of. Like a mix of mid-life crisis and coming of age. It's a formula that just really works well for me.
Well now I have to go watch this movie. I like all 3 actors (not a Lisa Kudrow fan, but she seems peripheral), and it looks, well, to sound a bit gay, charming.
The first hour is brilliant other than a couple scenes that do not work so well. The film then turns more drama than comedy and is not as good (but still has its moments). Plotologists will point out that there is a twist that does not work, but I will point out that it's not really supposed to be a twist and that the movie does not need one.
