Playing devil's advocate here...

Or you could all just trust your kid with a smart phone, and quit worrying about what they are doing with the phone! lol Worry enough that you want them to have a phone, so you can GPS them, and get in contact with them, but don't trust them enough to actually have a smart phone? Where's the disconnect here?
I have absolute faith in my kids ability to use a smart phone appropriately. That's not the issue - but what if a "friend" gets ahold of it and all of a sudden there are dick pictures on it? Or they use it to surf porn or whatever? That turns into a really shitty conversation in which you ask your kid why that's on there, and they deny knowledge and blah blah blah. I agree that everyone need be taught how to responsibly use technology, but safeguards exist for a reason, and I'm going to make use of them while I have young kids.

Also, chaos, you expecting your kid to text you when she starts kindergarden? That's some advance shit, yo. Will she text in haiku?

Think back to the 1970s (or imagine them, you young fucks). The challenges of parenting have changed, haven't they?

My three year old peed in her potty twice today and she was able to wear her underwear for the first time ever on a shopping trip to Target (Frozen undies of course). I have never been so happy to hear the spray of piss hitting plastic.

aaaaaaaaand teething sucks. Instead of being on a no solid food strike like he was from about 8 weeks ago until 2 weeks ago, now he refuses to eat anything that isn't sweet or isn't the plum organics mighty puffs (broccoli cheddar) or cheerios.

The top two are coming in at the same time - ones been hanging out for about 2-3 weeks and I thought great we're making progress....and now the second front one is coming in at the same time. Poor kiddo.

We are still dealing with the top 4 coming in all at once going on 2 weeks now. Bottom 2 seemed to be over in like 2 days... this one is really dragging out.

So our 1 year old has always eaten EVERYTHING we've given him. He's not picky at all, he'll eat steak, porkchops, tuna, salmon, mahi-mahi, every fruit and vegetable we've thrown his way, etc. We finally found the first food he wouldn't eat, donuts. Went and got donuts from a local bakery Sunday morning and picked up a few donut holes for the kid. Took one bite, spit it out, made a horrible face and wouldn't touch it again, lol. I'm guessing it was probably too sweet for him or something, he's never had anything sweet/baked before really, nothing sweeter than fruit.

Oh well, more for me.

Yeah my two year old likes sweets, but not sweet carb stuff. Like, she loves candy and chocolate, but will not eat cake, donuts, etc.

Took my kid to the zoo yesterday. Was pretty awesome seeing her react to all the animals. She really loved seeing two bald eagles.

We're thinking about going to the zoo here soon, we just wonder if a 1 year old would enjoy that, or if he's too young to really make it worthwhile at all.

My daughter is 13 months and she was pointing and watching stuff all day. It's hit or miss. She loved the Penguins. It cost $20 for the wife and I, so it wasn't a huge loss or major effort.

I just took 75 kindergarten kids to a church to show them how pipe organs work. It was hilarious to watch their eyes get bigger and bigger as the pipe organ got louder and louder.

So my youngest is six, and pretty much all his classmates have lost teeth, but he has not even a slight wiggle in any of them. My older four all had lost teeth by this point. Is it pretty common for kids to be this late losing teeth?

I finally understand why I ate ice cream for half of third trimester. This kid has a huge sweet tooth. Christ the YELLING if you aren't shoveling ice cream in this kids mouth at warp speed. Which would be ridiculous on its own but he furiously signs more while doing it - with his mouth full! I think part of its gotta be a cold thing too.

He really does not like 'sticky' things on his hands though. Daycare gives him different textures to play with on his hands and he hates it. Which is exactly like me. So if I give him something in a sauce forget it. Hates the feel of it on his hand. Same thing without sauce? Oh that's completely fine! And if theres sauce on a part that goes in his mouth but not on his hands that's about a 75% success rate. Well assuming he's not on a "I'm teething so I'm picky as hell" kick.

He's gotten insanely fun to play with in the last few weeks though. Like I crawl around on the ground with him, let him go off then yell I'm gonna get you and come crawling fast towards him....kid just collapses in a fit of giggles. He dances which is like...I don't even know hilarious because I have no idea where he got his moves from and he's just figured out how to use the shape sorter (with obviously limited success - he's figured out shapes should go in the holes but hasn't pieced together which shapes are supposed to go with which holes).....

Fuck kids are awesome. I miss him so much when I am at work sometimes I almost just start crying.

We're going to the baltimore aquarium for fathers day. My sister took her ~15 month old to the Shedd in Chicago - she loved it.

Our kiddo loves getting his hands dirty, spaghetti, mac & cheese, whatever. He then also loves playing with his ears while he eats, so we end up with half his head covered in whatever sauce is on our food for dinner. I wish he hated his hands being dirty, would save us a ton of trouble. Seems like we always miss a spot, we always find dried food in his ear, in in his eyebrow an hour later.

The ice cream thing could be related as much to teething as the actual ice cream. Our kid LOVES to eat frozen peach slices when he's teething, its a good compromise of actual somewhat healthy food, and something cold(yet not rock hard like ice) that he can chew on a while.

Plus its handy having a big bag of frozen peaches on hand for making smoothies

We wanted to go there but they don't allow strollers and there is no way our kids would make it. And carrying them all day is never fun. My wife is having surgery but after she recovers we are planning on ehading back tot he national zoo, the girls always love that.

Yeah, you have to leave strollers out front, they say "because of escalators and moving walkways."
