Started league as a bear and it was just not fun. Switched this morning to the Poison Pathfinder build and it's crazy good and stupid easy.

Honestly, all they need to do is make it so nodes dont lock out after you run the map.

This way, you go out, find all the bosses and stuff, and then when youve "finished" the atlas by finding what you want, you can just socket a new waystone and rerun any layout with extra content over and over again just like poe1. Unique nodes like paradise and seer get locked so you could keep expanding and running outward to find them as incentive to keep expanding, or just run the node you want over and over with a new waystone.

You still need key fragments to run the pinnacle bosses, its not like you really need to find another citadel.

the problem with the atlas is that it is infinite. There is no sense of progression. They have to totally overhaul it, make it finite for starters. Add depth. Right now the end game is so fucking shit that I skipped the league. Will probably skip all leagues until they fix the endgame.
100% agreed, currently 91% to level 99 in POE1 Keepers, so figure my goal will just be to hit 100 again this league and then see what is next for POE1. They seem to be phoning it in to some extent on both games, but at least endgame in POE has a ton of things I haven't tried.

This is my first run through Act 4 and it's great. Act 3 is such a slog mess. They really took the criticism of it to heart with this.

Knowing the end game being boring I have a hard time committing to no lifting it in any way.

Ran a few maps with Bear but now I think I will try the Djinn Sorc for a bit.

My two autism friends always go all in and I don't know how they find grinding endless maps so fun.

They are even worse in PoE1 too, and there I am bored as hell at reaching red maps.

Going to check DS Lily's Djinn guide as that is the only one I have seen so far being a little detailed.

who can I annoy for a guild invite ?

Disciple of Varashta sounds cool so I'm gonna try that. Haven't played since 0.1.

How is this not the case with PoE 1 as well? Are you just referring to the "suggested" gems when cutting?
The suggested gems has a few of its own problems that I'm surprised they haven't fixed yet. But no, not that.

Look at Rathpith Globe in both games. Linking instead of embedding to keep the size of the post down.

Increased spell damage -> Non-channeling spells deal increased damage. It's a huge difference in build variety.

Why do Heralds in PoE2 require a martial weapon?
Why does Lightning Rod only work with Lightning Arrow?
Poopbutts highlights those and more much better than I can

He made that video back in 0.2 and I think it's even more relevant today with how on-rails Bear and Wolf are.

I was looking into Jiquani's Potential builds recently. Probably the best unique of 3.27 that isn't some retarded Foulborn. It took me a few tries to figure out why some people were building with Soulrend of the Spiral. It has terrible damage effectiveness and Jiquani's Potential is about adding a buttload of flat damage, so on the surface, it looks like wasted potential.

In the end, skills like Soulrend of the Spiral being utilized the way they are in PoE1 will never exist in PoE2. Or they will for a bit, get insultingly highlighted for the author's creativity, and then nerfed out of existence. Please follow build guide.

"Please follow the vision" would be more appropriate for PoE2
Hey at least they have one. Prob not too much longer because everyone just wants a POE1.2 so eventually they will cave, but regardless, at least they have one. This does not mean all the players have to agree to it.

They have lost their vision for POE1 a long time ago, and now with Chris Wolcen gone they are just throwing shit in the air at this point, last league is a testament to that. Everyone got all their shit quick fast in a hurry and then quit in record times.

I think you're overreading intent into what are mostly clarity and balance constraints, not some grand attempt to kill creativity. Yes, Rathpith changing from generic spell damage to non-channeling spells is a narrowing, but it's also a response to PoE1's long-standing problem where broad modifiers end up being mathematically correct for everything and functionally meaningless as choices. Specialization isn't inherently railroading, sometimes it's the only way uniques don't just collapse into "best-in-slot for every caster."

The same logic applies to things like Heralds requiring specific weapon types or Lightning Rod being locked to Lightning Arrow. Those restrictions aren't random flavor decisions, they're guardrails. In PoE1, the moment a mechanic proved even remotely efficient, it tended to metastasize across the entire skill ecosystem. One interaction would become numerically correct for dozens of builds(hi2u impale, reservation abuse, stat-stick offhands pre-3.5, etc.)that had no thematic or mechanical relationship to it, simply because the system allowed it.

We've seen this cycle play out repeatedly in PoE1. Broadly applicable mechanics turn into universal enablers, then get scaled back, reworded, or nerfed into irrelevance after dominating for a league or two. GGG spent years playing whack-a-mole with unintended synergies that trivialized balance and crowded out alternative options, not because creativity was flourishing, but because the rules were too permissive to sustain long-term health.

PoE2 is very clearly trying to address that at the foundation. By tying certain mechanics to specific weapons or skills, they're limiting how fast and how far a single interaction can spread. That allows them to balance those mechanics more aggressively without worrying that they'll instantly become mandatory for half the roster. It's a preventative approach rather than a reactive one - less "let everything through and nerf it later," more "define the lane first so it can be tuned properly." Mark talks about this a lot with his stances on nerfing.

You can argue that some of these constraints are too tight or overly conservative and that's a fair critique but framing them as evidence that PoE2 hates creativity misses the actual goal. The intent isn't to force people into "follow build guide" anymore than that is the case for PoE1. It's to stop the game from degenerating into the same narrow meta where a handful of interactions dominate until they're inevitably crushed. Whether they've struck the right balance yet is debatable, but the motivation behind those restrictions is far more practical than people give it credit for.

Oracle CoC plantstormer feels pretty good so far, just got to maps.

Using mainly entangle plus thunderstorm for all non rares/bosses. And adding thrashing vines on bigger guys, and tornado when there are ground effects.

Feels kinda like spark stormweaver did in 1.0.

I have no idea if it will continue to scale, but the way you just kind of glide through the screen covering everything is quite similar.

Yes, guardrails. I said the Bear and Wolf are very much on rails.

I think we're fundamentally in agreement. However, I see rails as a negative and it results in shallow game with little longevity squabbling over resources from its better. You seem to think it a positive that saves devs time? IDK, when was the last time PoE1 had that degenerate narrow meta?

There, we did it.

Campaign complete, did a tier one map, we out. Didn't get this far in 0.2 or 0.3

I'm still willing to keep showing up for a fresh league and checking out the new content and I had a much better experience this time than before but it remains a game that just isn't for me.

I'd probably like it more if i rerolled from bear to something else, because rampage is pretty clunky and furious slam is really slow. I don't see myself hanging around long enough to afford a Fury of the King, which is the one item that actually fixes the entire archetype.

The part of the game I hate the most is after you buy low level mapping gear that costs 10-25ex each to fill out your resists and get a decent weapon, but before you actually start getting gear worth divines to make the gameplay feel smooth and snappy. That's the most awful the game can feel and it comes right at the point where the current atlas feels like a fucking slog around tier 9-11 maps.

Thought I'd last at least a week, but I gotta tap out after just the weekend man.
