In reality though who cares about "balance"? Its a fucking power fantasy RPG mostly solo game. And best of all if something is truly OP and breaking the game, they can just nerf it next league. I mean, just look at last league and how people were breaking the league mechanic and basically fucking the whole economy. But again, who gives a shit? Its only one league and there will be a wipe. Worst thing they tried doing is nerfing this mid league and had to revert it all when they got community flack.

But I do agree with you about the ascendancies though. Some of the older shit is kinda weak now compared to the new shit they are adding.

Honestly I'm kinda glad they're apparently giving the middle finger to balance. The quest to balance shit in RPGs has always been gay.

I think it's more that they are worried about the game lacking "stuff" and would rather have sufficient stuff and then worry about balancing later, which I think is the smart approach. The only brutal part for them is that they will inevitably have to do a giant nerf patch.

Haven’t loaded this up since December and even then only played it for a few minutes. Ready to give this another go around with the new season dropping. Could give a fuck about what’s META this go around. Anyone got any recommendations to what’s easy and fun to just casually log in and blast mindlessly with?

If you don't care about what's meta, then just pick whichever class fantasy you like, whether that's minions, bows, grenades, or big stick bonk and go from there. You'll easily be able to finish campaign and early maps with any skill if you just use synergistic supports instead of picking them randomly, and spending 1 exalt on a market weapon whenever you feel like you're starting to do zdps.

If you get to mid maps and feel like you need something more meta, you can look around to see what's good that you can respec into from the class you already picked.

My big concern with meta is avoidance. How can I not be an additional person trying to buy lightning bows

Think of it as tiers...there is the S tier meta builds, which you definitely want to avoid, but then you still have the A and B tier which are still very good. Or just avoid all this shit and go SSF but on a much slower pace and learn to craft your own shit..

I think bows will always be part of the meta, because they scale so well into the end game. They are easy to use and basically clear screens. And they hardly got touched in 0.5.

It becomes a double edged sword though. Because on one hand all the meta shit will have the crafters scrambling to make shit for those builds, so you will have more to choose from. Maybe the very high end shit will be super expensive, but you can also sore some of their failures, maybe 5 our of 6 or 4 out of 6 for cheap.

Great talk and went into depth on a lot of shit. Honestly prob the best interview they gave this go around. They went into problems with core game play and how they will fix them. But huge takeaway is that between now and 1.0 is going to be the huge re-balancing. Character focused like skills, skill tree, unique rework and and adding a ton more in, more in line of "build defining" and not the trash thats littering the game right now at lower levels. But not only this, but the content as well. Also adding in the missing ascendancies for the classes that are already in game. There will be economy resets with some minor content additions between .5 and 1.0 so they can test all of this shit but there wont be these huge leagues.

They had already talked about the half league balancing changes, it's the main reason they said this would be the last major patch before 1.0(which is tentatively planned for december so in 6+months) although the confirmation of additional smaller leagues is new. Not sure if they'll turn the league entirely off or if they'll have it running and then event leagues on the sides, but yeah. They also talked about minor leagues for the reset so likely something similar to Phrecia or even simpler, nothing big.

Summary here because it is a long watch and while some answers are interesting, a bunch is pretty slow yapping about stuff they had already mentionned in the league Q&A and shit

can you post the build?

I've been wondering about Chrono's new attack speed buff, and wondering what could be done with it. But haven't tried any attack builds, to really even know where to start.

I can pick apart certain elements of the build, but theyre minor differences in opinion. The transition from the interludes to early end game isnt described well because if you swap the gems/talents too early, without the proper levels or ascendencies - then you'll ruin the build. So if you use it, use the "act 4" page up until the point you feel you arent progressing anymore and THEN swap over to the early end game build. If you do it "too early" then you wont be freezing shit as easily, for example.

I'm thinking of just winging it with a minion Witch and then see whats OP after a week or two and reroll if needed.

Will try the challenges for the first time ever in PoE in 0.5. The armor set looked cool. So will probably be grinding for quite a while anyway. Plenty of time to try different builds.

How hard are the challenges usually?

Recomb was pretty absurd with the way PoE2 crafting currencies work.

I think people are gonna be surprised how the weapon market looks with it gone though. Even if you personally weren't using it, almost every rare weapon you bought on trade was made using recomb and sold for profit or after an undesirable outcome was hit by someone trying to craft a much better version of what you bought.

With all that gone buying rare weapons is gonna look pretty spartan for quite a while.

In PoE1, getting all the cosmetics is usually pretty easy, although a few of the late challenges are usually either time consuming or will need you to spend a bunch of currency. Good as a "I'm done with the league, let's just liquidate everything in my stash to get the last rewards" things, but if you played the league a fair amount of time(like if you're the type who plays a starter for a week or two then do another 2-3 weeks with a stronger endgame build with a headhunter and shit), even that doesn't matter. The full challenges in PoE1 however are extremely grindy, but they're only for the totem thing: last cosmetics is at 36 challenges, there's 40 challenges and the last 4 are shit like farm 1000vaaled maps or kill the new pinnacle boss 100times and shit like that. I'd say the majority of people do not actually do 40 challenges, I've never done it once personally, but done 36 challenges a lot even when I didn't care too much about the rewards because if you're playing a league for a couple of weeks, you'll just get it done/have enough currency to finish it.

My assumption is they're just going to rescale it the same as PoE1 36 challenges, so I'd expect it'll be pretty easy if you play a reasonable amount of time and dive into the endgame.
