Is charged staff and rend bugged? When I rend with charged staff and go back to attacking I still have the buff icon but definitely don't seem to be doing lightning damage.

The unaffected by chilled ground passive doesn't work. Still get chilled, still get slowed even though it doesn't show your character sheet change either way, but you ARE slower. Hopefully they fix that.

This patch has been HUGE in terms of all sorts of shit, but also buggy as fuck. Like, buggier than 0.1 probably. I'd say it's like a 9/10 for new content (they need to let you block content and/or SOFTEN content somehow in endgame, Delirium DR bullshit mostly) and probably like a 7/10 for game feel. The destination quest lines are cool, but they're bugged as fuck, a lot have bad quest updates, some can soft brick, and some take too many interval maps to get to the target map(s).

Definitely a step in the right direction overall, but looks like they're sorely lacking in the QA department. We've always been the REAL beta testers, but some of this stuff isn't just stuff not working like that last minute passive notable I mentioned, but full on quest lines or ascendancy's. They gotta tighten their shit up.

Yeah bugs aside my only real issue with the updated endgame are just how many maps it takes to traverse around doing all the content/quests. Fast travels or the like wouldn't go amiss. Also getting a fair amount of hard freezing, which has only happened with frequency in this patch for whatever reason.

Yeah, it's pretty sad that the single biggest issue with PoE2 now is their technical stuff. There's certain times of day where the game is simply unplayable. I log in and the latency meter constantly spikes from 35ms to 6000ms and then disconnects. I've tried everything--changing servers to EU or asia to avoid primetime or even just afternoon on DC or Canada East, changing chat channels to some random number no one else is using, etc. It's not my internet, I can switch over to playing Division 2 without so much as the slightest bit of lag. The only solution that works is "wait a few hours and try again". The problem is that PoE2 forces you to use the garbage 'lockstep' networking mode instead of having a 'predictive' option like in PoE1. GGG knows that nobody uses lockstep when given the choice, so why the fuck are we stuck with it here?

So I've never played the first one, is it worth starting on it and just playing through the campaign so know the story and everything and then trying this one out?

If you need the story in a game you are playing to do some of the heavy lifting than probably? Much of the PoE2 campaign is going to revolve around a guy and a thing that you are assumed to already know about.

Yep. Same thing. I was up at 5am this morning and not a single lag spike until about 8 am. Gradually got worse until 10 am or so and the game becomes damn near unplayable.

Clearing shader cache and /flushdns helps a little but its obviously an issue on their side.

Maybe just watch a story/lore recap then start playing this one.

I never played the first one either and I'm not really paying attention to the story in this one. I skip all the dialogue. I just like turning things into ice chunks with the werewolf.

No you have to play the first one first and you can't come to the second one until you've done all your ubers.

No. The narrative isn't bad or poorly executed but it's definitely secondary. That said, I rarely play games for story since I think gameplay and narrative are already difficult to execute well by themselves, seamlessly integrating both is quite rare. So, I might be biased. Been playing for ten years, barely know the story.

PoE 1 story was good because they just tossed in bits and pieces through one or two lines of dialogue here and there. PoE 2 every NPC tells a whole fucking story and you just skip everything after the 2nd NPC.

Apparently you can get a free passive from one of the towers in the fortress when someone sacrifices themselves to the void.

It's been done on trade league so far.

I think that paying zero attention to any of the 'story' in poe 1 or 2 is the best way to go about it, personally.

Yeah, I just can't do that. I went ahead and made a Templar and I'm playing through the first game and Jesus is it massive shift from Diablo. It's not bad, kind of reminds me of Diablo 2 sort of with the speed of things, but it's pretty jarring. Maybe it's just the first act though.

The story isn't like atrocious, it's just fairly simple and can be confusing at times if you don't read every optional dialogue. Unlike Diablo 3/4, they don't really force you to sit through any of it so it's easy to miss parts, and a bunch of it is for world building more so than being relevant.

There's also some bits that aren't available anymore I think? I remember Synthesis had a lot of interesting bits about the story but since the league was never added to core I'm pretty sure most of it is gone and over time the whole endgame story shifted and progressed.

For example Betrayal league mechanic doesn't make much sense unless you played in the very old days, back when there were Masters with questlines and stuff, then when they removed masters cause it was a pretty shitty system with dailies and most people hated leveling them, they made that into a league mechanic(thus Betrayal, since the masters become enemies). Zana's stuff is the same, the current story(or well the last time I played which was years ago) makes sense on its own kinda but you lack the context of previous versions of the endgame explaining some stuff.

Yeah, I feel like the combo of stories being all over the place from leagues coming and going and getting all jumbled together and then the tons and tons of typical sjw/woke trash all over the place just makes it bleh.

More power to you if you want to actually listen to the lore etc. though, i'm probably also partly jaded from having played the game off and on for 14 years.

I think you can get the poe 1 story just doing the campaign really. The atlas stuff can get messy to digest
