Hopefully it's more of:
  • Affliction
  • Sanctum
  • Sentinel
And less of:
  • Settlers
  • Necropolis
  • Ancestor
  • Crucible
  • Kalandra
  • Archnemesis

It's not just the release schedule that's suffered because of PoE2. The league quality itself has been much lower since they announced the games would be split.

Settlers was a drop in quality? What the fuck are you smoking? I get it's not everyone's cup but you can't deny the quality.

I wouldn't mind seeing some things come back but different mechanics like crucible.

I liked Archnemesis itself collecting organs that eventually led in to a gigantic loot explosion but it had those dreadful monster mods that went core with Kalandra and continued to be a problem for multiple leagues. The real clunkers for me were Scourge, Crucible and Necropolis. Settlers had the deletion of melee totems and huge buffs for all melee skills on top of a decent league mechanic with the settlement. It just way overstayed its welcome not just as we waited for 3.26 but as the continued foundation of every special event they held. I don't want to farm any more fucking gold for this fucking town, thanks. If parts of it go core in a way that requires farming gold to upgrade the fucking town I'm not going to be happy.

They could have polished the fuck out of that turd and it would still just be Farmville in my ARPG. There was inherently a low ceiling on Settlers.

Yea building the settlement every league sucks balls.

You didn't like scourge? Wasn't that the press button, phase into second map of mobs? I kinda liked that one.

I league started poisonous concoction. What would happen would be I'd push the scourge button and die. There was this little delay between button and the effect + my reaction time + PConc projectile travel speed and they'd be all up on my ass and that was all she wrote. I was playing Expedition at least a little all the way to the end and just didn't really have it in me to restart and then deal with all those little fucks chewing on my gibblies.

In general I really want a bit of story to unfold during a league and Scourge had a single npc interact with once.

You say this but also say Sanctum was great. Sanctum was a Rogue-Lite in your ARPG. Farming 32 Maps just to get a full Sanctum you could then fail and get NOTHING from....

The league mechanics themselves are almost never very compelling. The leagues however can still be great if the rest of the game is in a good state. The ToTA league mechanic was a bad version of auto-chess. But the league was still good because you could actually completely ignore that league mechanic and still get all the rewards from it by buying them. You had to run Sanctum if you wanted an equippable relic.

The difference is that Sanctum roughly tracked with character progression, so it fit better into an ARPG. If someone said they thought Sanctum was low quality because oops melee, I wouldn't disagree.

To be clear, my list was league mechanics, Settlers, not the patch state, 3.25. It's not so clear cut to just state the two are distinct, but I look at the list of league mechanics prior to the game separation and I generally find them more appealing. But, they were years ago and maybe I'm fitting it to the narrative in my head. I do agree that the base game state has been great. It's made whether to buy supporter packs confusing. There's a thread on reddit where ZiggyD is crowdsourcing questions and one of the top is basically "how do we support poe1?".

I'm not sure I've ever truly enjoyed interacting with the league mechanic itself in any league since I started playing (Kalandra).

Some of them just feel way less shit because the rewards are good (Sanctum, Affliction) vs some where the rewards mostly suck ass or are too cumbersome to interact with (Crucible, Necropolis)

I wouldn't mind some affliction league level juice for 3.26, phrecia idols spoiled me. I'm also hoping for a meta shakeup and more endgame stuff.

Does this mean not picking up trash crafting recipes makes veiled gear better via a smaller affix pool?

Veiled gear is still going to have all the modifiers, this just gives you the crafting part without having to run syndicate or unveil gear at all(and without having to find 3-4 items with the mod you actually want, which takes fucking forever sometimes especially if it's a specific character like Elreon's -mana rings)

Yea this is going to be amazing for elreon and attacks can't be evaded
