Meh I guess I still need to finish this game since they fixed the dead lady in a tree bug.

This story... So slow. Much wow.

The significant balance differences between classes made me put this down when it came out. Ciphers were god at release, and when I quit guns were still OP. You'd get side characters specced bad. The recommended stats for X class were often wrong. It just got annoying when 1 or 2 of my party members was basically pointless relative to the effective characters. Then I find out that if you solo you don't split the XP...blah. It's like they designed the game to be meta-gamed, and I ain't got time for that shit. I want to slay monsters and save the world, not pass all the math through a calculator. All that meta-gaming slowly got on my nerves, and I quit probably a handful of hours from the end. Same shit annoyed me about the high-end in WoW - nerdy crap like armor pen that they eventually pulled away from.

I did end up finishing a similar style game called Expeditions: Conquistador, but a bug in the choices made it so my finish didn't reflect my actions. They fixed it, but I'm not playing through again to get a few lines of text. The sum of annoying shit never overwhelmed the enjoyment of the game.

I bought this within a couple weeks of launch and, like you, couldn't get past the "metagamey" shit. I want to like it, and I think I would like it if I looked up a simple "make your party XYZ." Unfortunately there are so many other games coming out with a much lower barrier of entry so this keeps getting pushed further back in the backlog.

just play with the companions you get ... the game isn't that hard as long as you have some CC in your party. I played and never thought of Min-Maxing, i just played it and enjoyed it on hard.

Patch 2.0 released

Update Notes: 2.00 - Obsidian Forum Community

Companion AI - You may now set your companions to use AI. For those of you that do not want to micromanage your party, you may now choose to have the AI perform basic commands for you. You can activate and deactivate the AI control at any time, so you can still have ultimate party control when you need it. Each class has specialized AI packages and we will be adding more in the future.
Improved Creature AI - Creatures and NPCs will now act more intelligently and make better use of their abilities and spells.
Character Retraining - You may now retrain your character and modify their stats for a small fee.
Individual Stealth - You may now place individual party members into scouting mode. If some of your party enters combat you will no longer have your entire party leave stealth.
Range Indicators - There are now range indicators to let you know the casting range of spells and abilities. Now you will know if your wizard is going to move before he casts that Fireball. =)
Accuracy Indicators - You are now shown the chance to hit on all attacks, abilities, and spells by mousing-over a potential target.

I enjoyed it, but there was just something "missing" that didn't suck me in say like Wasteland II did. It really felt like an updated BG II, minus the enjoyable and familiar D&D lore and mechanics. I really couldn't get into the lore/story, never really felt connected to the NPC's, and the mechanics/attributes just felt weird and counter-intuitive. The amazing tactical spell battles from Throne of Bhaal were missing as well, with the extent of spell tactics being casting a counter to whatever affliction was effecting your guys. Even on hard the game felt too easy, but perhaps that was because I researched stats and builds before playing. Nevertheless, the tactic of building two dedicated defensive tanks, two dedicated DD's, and two supports allowed me to rape face.. Really the game seemed to come down to "blocking traffic" with your two tanks (with hold the line) while your guys in back mopped up. A full defense specced tank with a draining weapon was practically unkillable. With the exception of the undead that would teleport to your squishies, nobody else ever tried to disengage from my tank and go after my casters. Also, the Keep had promise, but in the end just felt like a useless mini-game. I mean, why the fuck do I need a vendor at my keep that sells vanilla weapons? The Keep mechanic just felt like a wasted opportunity.. 7/10

I bought this back in June and I still haven't even installed it yet. I think I finally understand the whole steam backlog thing now.

Same, or well, even worse I guess, since I backed this on kickstarter or some shit, and haven't installed it yet. I thought about it a few weeks back but 2.0 was coming so figured I'd wait. Now I'm doing D3 season 4 in a few days, so no time yet, but I think after I'll start playing this. Or maybe I'll wait for the 2nd expansion.

Been on a long kick with this game recently. Got to level cap on one party after 60ish hours, then created an almost completely different party with 5 new classes and now going through the game really quick. I very much enjoy the balance changes that they have made. Almost all the classes feel powerful in their own way. Ciphers are now fun but not total godmode like they were early on in the game.

White March is pretty cool, definitely has a few tough fights but also many easy ones. When you zone to white march it lets you make it harder if you want if you are higher lvl but I didn't do that the first time. Will do that this time and see how it works out.

Is there a good way to deal with druids? I get fucked up by an ogre pack with a druid in it in the endless paths level 3. That dude just drops huge dots on me and it's game over lol

I tried to pull with my tank and keep my group back but he still gets his insect swarm and poison off once hes in range of the rest of the party lol

Run priest in and cast that mark on the ground that forces them prone, it is rarely resisted but I forget the name, it is a level 2 spell.

shit this actually made me stop and see wtf my priest could actually do.. i was basically only using him as a healer and a buff bot, didn't bother looking at his offensive abilities.

Thanks boss!

Ha, priest is king of crowd control, only rivaled by wizard if built that way, with chanter being close second.

I sunk 49 hours into it and basically did everything except a couple of the companion side-quests, including the first expansion, White March part 1. I paid the slacker backer price of like 25 dollars for the base game, was definitely worth.
