Can someone tell me if PS5 Pro requires messing with graphic settings in games as if it's a PC? Is it like a traditional console where the games are basically configured for the system automatically? I ask because I'm curious if due to PS5 being a thing if PS5 Pro requires a bit more customisation to get the additional benefits.

Your post made me curious about this. I don't own a PS5 pro, so I went to google.

Looks like once you tell the system that it's a PS5 pro, you don't have to do anything else and it activates files hidden in a game that aren't accessed with a regular ps5. But you have to toggle the setting in the system menu to on (it's off by default). So it's a system setting and not an individual game setting.

i had a ps5 and now have a ps5 pro. You just have to set display to 4K 120hz in the PS5 system menu, turn on the appropriate setting on your TV HDMI port (LGs would be gaming mode, VRR on, no post processing, deep HDR enabled) and it generally just works.

Most games have a quality (30 fps, 4K) or performance (60 fps, 1440p usually) mode. With PS5 Pro you might see a blend third graphics mode which is usually 4K 60 fps, if its not there you are still kinda stuck then choosing 30 or 60 fps mode.

The really big option is PSSR, which is Sony's version of Nvidia DLSS. PS5 Pro has a specific chip for it and games that let you turn it on have way better raytracing. There are very few games unfortunately that have a PSSR mode.

Ideally if you have an LG OLED TV plus pro you hope the game supports 60 fps, 4K, PSSR running at 40 fps VRR. That sync's perfectly with panels 120hz displays (120/40=3 ticks per frame, no added latency and no screen tearing). Without VRR you'd either have to get some input latency with forced v-sync or screen tearing without v-sync.

So if only some games have PSSR is a PS5 Pro even worth it?

it's over 150 games now with PSSR support or pro enhanced; "very few" is short changing it a bit. The PSSR 2.0 update was pretty big for the Pro and games that have support look noticeably better now. I payed $650 for my Pro last year during the Days of Play sale and I'd say it's worth that much. Not sure I'd go for $900.

Man I'm conflicted. I need a way to play games in the living room but Steam Machine seems to be a underperforming for the money and PS5 Pro is $900 now. Not really sure which route to go as a PC isn't an option currently for living room gaming.

not really but at this point I put so little time into gaming, when I do i want the best bang for the buck (in terms of visuals). I do play Forza Horizon on my PC but prefer gaming on my ps5 pro in general. I'm "playing" 007 First Light but i've played like 5 hours in 4 weeks.

GTA 6 is gonna be console only for a year or more, assuming its not a train wreck (big assumption) I'd rather play it on a ps5 pro than an xbox, and that game will likely support PiSSeR. Other than that and Wolverine there is virtually nothing I care about for console games in the next year or two. lol, intergalactic aka space lesbians and God of War Laundry have no interest for me at all.

Oh, star wars pod racing is gonna be awesome but thats on PC too.

Yeah, but I would have the entire PS5 library to play through. I almost always buy current gen very late so options *should* be rather large. It's just hard to justify $900.

Did you hit up ebay/marketplace in your area? Maybe you can find a used PS5 for a decent price.

act soon, all the wanna be young thugs will start buying up the ps5 & ps5 pros once they realize GTA 6 is actually releasing soon. on the flip side, a lot of them will resell it for cheap once they are done with the game.

Someone mentioned it in some thread but if you have decent Internet you can stream from your PC to the moonlight app on your TV. I did it a little bit and it works surprisingly well.

I ended up doing moonlight on my lg c4 from the desktop in the office upstairs since some of the games I wanted to couch weren’t on ps5. Works great for more casual gaming. I haven’t tried it for anything twitchy or graphically demanding yet, just Ancient Kingdom and Erenshor.
