Sounds like Gilligan thinks this won't be ready for S2 until late 2027 or 2028. I don't think I'll give a shit by that point.

The show is good, but 2-3 years between seasons good? No way I'm spending 10+ years on this fucking thing.

yeah i enjoyed season 1 but holy shit i don't think i've ever seen a more slower paced, languid, unfocused show. I binged the last 3-4 episodes and I think waiting week to week would have really made me dislike the show.

The sci fi stuff is fun, clearly this is a Dark Forest system where aliens are exterminating other intelligent species by rendering them into pacifist freaks who lose any motivation to go into space and conquer, and the cherry on top is the species basically wipes itself out AND still has a final genetic prerogative to find someone else to transmit the infection to before they die off.

absolutely diabolical in a universe without FTL, why bother going off and conquering the galaxy when you can just transmit a virus and make sure you are the only species around. Although I wonder if the OG species that developed it did it on purpose, or it arose by accident. I doubt we'll ever get an answer, but its a neat idea.

Also tough to see how you stretch this idea out for more than 1-2 more seasons, without getting into some heavy space opera. Man I'd love a flashback episode to the alien race that sent the virus (600 years ago!) but I doubt that ever happens. I also really wonder how they figured out Earth has life, since the 600 light years distance means they wouldn't have received any Earth radio/light signals.

Any pop culture mojo / significance is going to be desiccated beyond recovering by the time season two is premiering.

Carol being a terrible person might be a product of contemporary (bad) writing habits more so than a plot point that will unravel in the future. As a point of reference

here's a lady talking about fanfiction and how it's trained current writers to be shit. It's not necessary but it's influencing what I'm going to say here and her content has thus far all been good.

Carol is a successful writer. We see her books prominently featured at an airport book store. Dorks show up in decent number for a book signing for her newest novel. She hates her fans. She hates the drivel she writes. She hates the drivel her competition writes. She's a drunk. She's got a monogamous maybe wife in Helen who loves her unconditionally. We see them on a trip together and Carol is horrible to be around but that doesn't matter to Helen. Later on we learn that before she died Helen joined the hivemind and she truly 100% loved Carol for reals. Over the course of nine episodes we're never shown a reason for that. There's no pet the dog moment where we are given a glimpse of the person Helen fell in love with. Helen isn't there for the money either. The hivemind can't lie. Helen loved Carol deeply and truly.

What we've got is a character that doesn't deserve that or anything else good in her life. It's not because this is a cleverly chosen point of view character turning the concept of the protagonist on it's head. It's because we've got ladies at the head of the writers room that have conjured a character that they and many other women can self-insert as - no redeeming qualities but receive success and unconditional love anyway. It's Bella Swan of Twilight except instead of targeting high school age girls we're going for cool wine aunts. It's hollow fanfiction tier characterization. We're not going to see the other sides of her as the series progresses. There's one side and this is it.

Alternatively, it could be how an alien race "reproduces". I forget the name of the book series, but it was about an alien race that came to Earth and began to seed their genetic material into the human population (which has a much larger impact on babies born from the genetically altered people) because it was the way this alien species spread "itself" across the galaxy

A huge chunk of our existing DNA contains the fossilized genetic code of viruses long extinct, passed down over millions of years. It's even thought that viruses play a significant role in evolution as well.

Hmmmm, I didn't watch all of BCS but I would say that's a shallow description of Walter White's character.

Walter White is a narcisistic genius filled with regret who latches onto a feeling of importance and power under the false guise that he's doing it for his family. He's broken bad not by circumstance, but by his own internal flaws brought out because of circumstance. See: 1:40, which is one of my favorite scenes in the show:

Conversely, Carol is narcissistic in ways she doesn't even understand, while also hating herself and bumbling anything she tries both out of incompetence and weakness of will. She's the biggest piece of shit protagonist in any show I've ever seen intentionally written and I love it.

Why in THE FUCK did you have to post a video with FUCKING SKLYER??! That's it, Christmas and New Years is ruined! I hope you are happy!

Carol is on the clock for season 2. She's got a month or two at most. Plus she can no longer get anything from the hive with out risking conversion.

This is both the worst and best show. It's super slow but I still find it really interesting.

Clock? What clock? She has a atom bomb dead man's switch, she has as much time as the writers need for the story to progress.

If we've learned anything from the last 20+ pages its got to be this. Logic and reasoning has fuck all to do with the plot of this show, its window dressing at best.

The hive that wont pick an apple off a tree, despite it being an evolved designed seed distribution system necessary for the trees reproduction, because it would cause "harm"; cannot poison her food with some sedative so that they may forcibly convert her while shes knocked out.

They absolutely can pick up the apple once its fallen, just like they can use her eggs to develop a custom virus for her since they've already been removed. And if they can get her alone they absolutely could use an aerosol on her to force the conversion, hence the a-bomb.

The scene with the little girl willingly converting is informative not only in that it shows they will drop the charade and pack up once the conversion happens, but also in how the specialized virus is administered. I'm sure some mcguffin will explain that it must be inhaled, can't be ingested, and they can't just chem trail the specialized virus, either its too limited for mass production or it would end up killing Manousas and thus they can't just blanket drop it, it must be administered directly.

Keeping her happy and comfortable is still right up there just below converting her on their priority list. Otherwise the girl was willing, why not fly her and her "family" to a hospital to take her marrow, make the virus, then convert her there? keeping her comfortable in her familiar setting was just as important.

Yep. Who knows what the atom bomb will get used for, but you know it's blowing something up, lol. The month long thing is just them creating a suspensful "clock" that will probably get resolved in the middle of next season somehow. I will guess that it'll get used in a way that has nothing to do with protecting Carol from getting Plurb'd.

The machine gun in Breaking Bad finally getting used was so satisfying.

Granted the average viewer is a retard and half the population are even dumber than that, but a mystery this is not, unless you are fucking retarded. I mean I've spent all of 5 seconds thinking about it and with just a precursory glance I've accurately predicted 90% of the shit that's happened so far, not even a flex here most of the people, tuco, etc got everything right immediately. Only a handful of idiots even argued against it. a mystery this is not nor was it ever really supposed to have been.
See, I feel like I've predicted the super obvious things like "Let's build a big ass antenna!" and "Boy we sure are hungry", but didn't predict much beyond that. I didn't think Carol would have a dyke out montage while Manusous hung back and taught himself how to make EMP. I didn't predict that he'd just kinda be OK with Carol hanging out with Plurbs and instead predicted he'd be an unstable anti-hero. I didn't predict he'd be focused on exorcising them and thought he'd choose destroy, though I think there's still room for that split in season 2 and 3 and stiiiil predict he, Diabete and Carol are going to be three separate branches of Destroy, Symbiosis and Cure that somehow match Mass Effect 3's endings of Destroy, Control and Synthesis. I also predicted that the immunes merging would produce something not fully plurb'd, but that got blown out of the water by the Goat herder looking plurb'd AF.

The key is to not give a fuck until the next season comes out. The days of me eagerly awaiting any show are long over. I see a new season pop up on my Sonarr/Plex server and I'm like oh yeah I remember that show. Watch it and forget it.

Yeah I dunno, I'm looking forward to the second season but by the time it comes out I'll probably have lost 80% of my cares about it. I generally start to really hate shows after the second season when the initial premise that is interesting and fresh, starts to fade away into the same old bullshit plot lines about relationships and character growth we've all seen dozens of times before. Meanwhile the premise is kinda in the background and only shows up near the end of an episode to remind you to stay tuned next time.

I think this is intentional result of the streaming era.

It started with Netflix dumping entire seasons for us to binge which generates tons of buzz which quickly fades so your year worth of effort to produce a season results in at most 2 weeks worth of engagement metrics and doesn't even guarantee a subscription renewal.

Then streamers started going back to weekly episodic releases to keep people subbed for a few months but the hype and buzz is gone its just like network TV.

So now you delay seasons just long enough for people to have forgotten 90% of what happened last time they watched which forces a binge rewatch to "catch up" just before the new season drops. You get your hype train buzz and engagement metrics from the binge watch as well as the weekly new content drop that keeps people subbed.

It's a razors edge which can definitely backfire if your show is shit but even shows that go to complete shit later like stranger things you still get the eyeballs watching just to see how it ends as long as the first season was good enough to get ppl committed.

Annual season releases isn't long enough time to justify a rewatch even if the audience forgot half the shit that happened last year. 2-3 years seems to be the sweet spot. This shit is intentional, the worst part is them going around and making excuses pretending like it's not

If this show was 2 seasons, sure. But I'm betting Vince drags this out over 4 or 5, which means I'll be 50+ years old by the time it is "done".

It's the same reason I lost interest in shit like Stranger Things. Taking a DECADE to finish a show? Fuck off.

I'm pretty sure waiting three full years for season two of Severence permanently impaired my enjoyment of the show.
Yep. I didn't enjoy the second season as much as the first for a few reasons, one of which was the huge delay. I had so much emotional attachment to the show at the end of the first season, but by the time season 2 dropped I couldn't care less about any of the characters. I don't really want to watch season 3.

If being hived is truly blissful you're going to have seven billion junkies mad at you for wrecking their buzz.
