Or it's a bad private server with 60k ppl drooling to get in, I am going to play it to see what all the fuss is between the two clients and all that jazz. Sincerely doubt I raid aka herb loop every week.
The only thing bad about Epoch was the infrastructure and server stability. When it was actually running, the gameplay and content were top notch.

Feels like a hostile take over, like walmart shutting down all the mom and pop grocery stores. Whatever though, more options are good.
How is it a hostile take over when they couldn't even get the server up and running?

Like Epoch is still surviving and due to Ascension it will actually be playable.

I wonder how fast Ascension will get them up to speed. There is supposedly a test today.

I'm curious if the character models that you can have on Ascension will be available to use on Epoch. I know new models aren't exactly popular with certain groups but personally I like them even though I might only hop on Epoch to see what it's like. I'm personally more interested in TWoW 1.18 and Bronzebeard but Epoch had foxes for hunter pets and I like foxes so fuck it I'll check it out.

Apparently they just had 2k players in Elwynn with no issue and running debuf software.

5.1k online

Yep. Was able to install from the Ascension launcher just now. Fired up on Linux fine. I had to tinker with their base one to get it to work.

Seems like the Epoch server has more differences to classic than it has similarities?

Understand classic =/= vanilla. They took the vanilla world and expanded on it without going too far into retail-like systems.
Something we need more of. I am happy we have so many options for this now. Truly.

I'll throw Epoch $50 when it is up and running.

OK, so the Epoch server is not the Bronzebeard server (which I thought were one in the same) and the Epoch option is Classic ++ while Bronzebeard (on first glance) is way off the deep end with changes.

Looking like I need to play on Epoch and not Turtle. Epoch has better talent trees, professions, and most importantly, 25 man raids instead of 40. The zones look weird and confusing (did those changes happen during WOTLK? I don't remember them; Goldshire for instance). Also looks like it will have a crazy-healthy population. But, maybe too much for one server? Time will tell. Easily hit lvl 6 in Elwynn just now in 45 minutes, despite there being a few hundred in the noob zone.

Ive never done the private server thing, but this Epoch thing intrigued me. So many people were upset at the lack of progress on Epochs failed launch, and then was made that some Ascension group got it and offered to help.

In a matter of only a few days, the progress that this Ascension team has made has been unbelievable. I think its getting ready to release in a solid state.

Epoch is Vanilla + with 61 point talent trees from TBC built on the WOTLK 3.3.5 client. it is a direct competitor to Turtle WoW so it's best to compare them to each other.

Both are classic vanilla WoW but pretend that they didn't go to TBC or raise the level cap so they add new zones/raids/etc expanded vanilla experience.

Turtle is 1.12 with 40 man raids and an attempt to unfuck vanilla balance so that anything other than warrior isn't a wasted spot (not sure how well they achieve this tbh)
Epoch is 25 man raids but TBC balance so warlocks become amazing but most specs are still shitty/suboptimal

Bronzebeard is Ascension's Classic + server, it is based on WOTLK directly. it is best viewed as SoD 2.0 with enchants that unlock new abilities/playstyles and heavily focused on open world exploration with world forged items and experiences. it is time locked progression server that will go from vanilla > TBC > WOTLK, so it's not really focused on adding any new zones to vanilla world (ie not much additional horizontal content) until WOTLK when they plan to add new shit after that

There is a solid single file line of people all the way from Goldshire to Sentinal Hill. Ive never seen anything like it.

Just for fun. The main lead that is fixing the game and communicating with everyone ( Dutch ), said there is no way a line will form that long. Currently its almost to the Deadmines.

This is part of the stress test, he has announced that they will be making another update tonight, but I feel launch will be imminent.
