The worst part about the interview was him going " suchandsuch class of 1990" Dammit I graduated in 1989 and he looks way older than I do, I think, gray hair adding to that: I would have thought he was 10 years older than his derived age. Andy Weir is a true science nerd/Computer science guy, and I think his character(s) are supposed to be more akin to Indiana Jones than Sciencey Gary Sue: Scientists in tough spots who use their skills and minds to reason and "science!" their way out things. We Gen X'ers would have said "MacGyver!ing" his way out.Really good interview too actually. Glad I was wrong about the author, though despite him saying no politics, there still was certainly those 2 lines I quibled about. Granted the 2nd one Stratt was upset about, but he had main character lapping it up.
Loved hearing him talk about his writing process and how he reasoned several of the plot points into the book.
Haven't seen the movie yet but read the book in a single sitting. Very much like The Martian, and as he mentions in the interview, I could tell deliberate choices were made to make those protagonists different.
It was a great interview and they could have gone on for hours, Andy obviously being a fan of the Drinker as he used his catchphrases and stepped on his Outro.
Super great watch and I heartily recommend it to anyone with an interest in A) the movie B) Andy Weir's work C) writing and writers' process overall.
