Last night I watched the 2001 planet of the apes by Tim Burton. I’d only seen it twice before: once in theatres and then again maybe ten years later. This past week I watched the 1968 and 1970 original planet of the apes movies.

The costume design, set design, and cinematography are pretty excellent but that’s where it stops short. The 1968 one is vastly superior in writing and acting.

The 2001 one is about as subtle as a brick to the face and is just a generic action plot. Tim Roth and the costume designs were the best parts of this pretty terrible movie. All in all, maybe a 4/10.

Actually rewatched it on YouTube maybe be a month ago, and hadn't seen it since college. It definitely has some funny moments, but I remember my buddy and I in the theater laughing our asses off at the ending.

It's not a horrible reimagining per se, but I think it relied too much on the special effects, and it's probably the start of when Tim Burton started going down the drain with his movies.

In the future you can use

- 1337x
- goku.sx
- stremio app w/ “torrentio” plug in installed (only on desktop)

Any of those 3 services are free to stream.

The Tim Burton one doesn’t have the magic of the original bc the philosophical elements are almost entirely gone. Plus Marky Mark romantically kissing a Chimp is an odd choice. Then immediately after romantically kissing the blonde human lol. Players gone play.

I've got YouTube premium because I just watch a bunch of stuff and listen to a bunch of stuff off of there so you get a ton of movies for free. We don't have cable, and just a couple of streaming deals with Amazon.

It's surprising the catalog they actually have. I've been watching a bunch of Old world War II movies like A Bridge Too Far, etc. there's a ton of old westerns and movies out of the 60s and 70s on there that I had never seen before, but really appreciate now because I'm older, but wouldn't have ever watched when I was young.

Just watched Bring Her Back. I know kroenen kroenen had a thread for it, I even tried doing that Google search deal but the link wouldn't work for some reason.

I thought this was a great movie, but somepretty disturbing scenes, but the theme of loss was good, and there really was some set ups some payoffs. It's pretty sad by the end. A24 definitely knows how to pick em.

One of the better horror movies I've watched in a while. You care about all the characters, even the antagonist.

Watching the 2013 "The Bachelor: Australia" on Hulu and man, it's wild how different television was in 2013 compared to 2025. Every single woman is normal. They all have long hair, and almost every single one of them are traditionally beautiful. The worst looking gal is still a 7/10.

I really appreciate and mostly stick to older media for a lot of reasons, but one of them is the casting. God forbid you don't cast Lizzo or Amy Schumer to be the lead in your movie.

Man like 3 out of 3 shows i watched recently, which featured a police/sherrif cheif. It was an enormous fat black woman. It's super weird how much hollywood loves the morbidly obese now

Inclusion means no skinny attractive girls and no straight white men.

Reminds me of this ol' Joe Rogan quote on magazine covers.

I enjoy watching comedies from the 90s through early 2010s and pointing out how many jokes even 15 years ago you can't make anymore.

I live in a major west coast city, and frequently see small-club comedians. The national acts are always the ones that kill. The opener making jokes about capitalism bad, orange man bad, or the patriarchy is bad, etc always bomb. Their sets never get anything more than pity applause and as they get more experienced in their skillcraft, they learn to stop making widely alienating jokes like that. I think part of it is also the morons who would laugh at those jokes don't have jobs and cannot pay for a night out.

It's rather refreshing, tbh, to see the crowd just reject those things. The rookie comedians are usually shocked because they live in a bubble that just includes their highly moderated reddit or tumblr forums where anything to the right of Karl Marx is outright banned or downvoted to oblivion, despite that being the overwhelming majority of Americans.

I think a movie like Tropic Thunder genuinely could work today, but screechers on the internet will make it appear like the sky is falling. The best thing Elon Musk did for western society was buy Twitter and remove the shackles on free speech. As soon as he did, all the suppressed speech ended and people truly realized how unpopular these lunatic beliefs are.

I know I've said that in the past, but good luck getting any juicy-wood producer or studio to make something comedy-wise that harkens back to the good old days.

How many test audiences will they run to see whether or not it's profitable before the suits come in and you have to do a bunch of reshoots or edit the best jokes out?

It's all about the bottom line. Only movies that get made with some real grit to them are the independent films, whether they're horror or sometimes comedy.

What about South Park? They still push the boundaries and always get air time.

albeit their quality has gone down and they have every episode about the orange retard the last few seasons.

I haven't watched that shit since college. I actually did see the movie during Christmas vacation in the theater.

I also have a copy of Orgazmo and Baseketball on DVD. I like Trey and Matt's work, but never forget they're Mormons, but after 20 years of South Park I could give a shit.

I'm actually watching the new Naked Gun movie, and it's surprisingly good. I really thought it was going to be a stinker but I'm eating crow for dinner. I'm actually laughing at some of the scenes. Pleasantly surprised...

Knocked out a couple of movies young me wanted to see but never got to:

Reign of Fire: heard this was a pile of shit and it didn’t disappoint. Fucking awful, lol.

Labyrinth: weird as hell but entertaining. Obviously would have made more of an impact as a kid, I’m sure. I’ll give it bulge/10.
