In the Mouth of Madness is probably my favorite lovecraftian flick. It's awesome. Obviously Escape is awesome too.

It's definitely one of the best, but The Resurrected is worth your time, as is the Nic Cage in The Colour Out of Space by the dude that did Hardware and The Island of Dr Moreaux. Crazy British witch man, I don't remember his God damn name, but he came out of retirement or left the island and made a pretty amazing film.

When you TRY to force the character into the moral background it just doesn't work at all. Just get rid of the idea of James Bond entirely. Please. We have Matt Damon/Jason Bourne to usher us into this century's spy movies.

It's strange how you can adapt certain core characters (eg., Jack Ryan) and they can survive the cultural and political movement. Watch "Patriot Games." It still holds up despite the political/social climate shift. (Plus, I still think that Harrison Ford played him "right" despite all the weird and seemingly random deletions from the text to the film.

I wouldn't mind if they made the Tom Clancy books or James Bond books as period pieces.

Making a Tom Clancy story outside of the Cold War doesn't work very well.

Making a James Bond movie not set in the Cold War doesn't work very well (albeit, I did like Casino Royale - Skyfall). The concept itself should remain a period piece.

The Resurrected is such a great Lovecraftian adaptation and it's kind of been lost, or was for a while. I had to seriously dig around to watch it 4 or 5 years ago and I think the only thing I could find was an old VHS and some VHS rips on YouTube but good to see that i's actually on a streaming service now. Suitable Flesh is a mish-mash modern retelling of it but The Resurrected really shines as a must see for fans. (There's an actual The Thing on the Doorstep movie that is horrible, the retellings are both much better)

There's a 2010 German version of Color Out of Space that's quite good as a more understated telling of the story; understated as compared to the Richard Stanley version but effective as a more comparable adaptation to the story.

Everything Stuart Gordon even reaching out into his non-Lovecraft work retains the influence and his entire filmography can almost be taken as Lovecraftian.

Dagon is my favorite overall as it really nails the feeling of everyone has gone crazy and the sane people are in the minority. Then there is a group doing a bunch of throwback stuff that's more period specific and I think that they've done Call of Cthulu and Whispers int he Darkness which both work but definitely lack some higher budget polish.

The Void starts out great but then trips over itself in figuring out what genre it is. It's not a bad film but it has some issues.

We did all* the Craig Bond films back to back earlier this year and taken together I liked the story it felt like they were trying to tell with this Bond. Taken in isolation though I can see really disliking his character. Not sure if that’s a success or failure or the series. We also never watched No Time to Die because I like to believe Craig’s story ended with him riding off with the girl and finding his content happy place.

I've actually got an old DVD of The Resurrected. Forgot about Dagon, too, but it's a great movie, especially for the budget. I'll have to check out the German film, had no clue it existed, so thanks.

I haven’t enjoyed a movie at the theatre in a decade. I’ve tried to go twice, and both times it was completely ruined by the usual suspects. Some people genetically can’t be civilized.

I bought a 75” Sony x90j back in 2021 and have only been to the movies 2x since then: to see the Batman and to see Deadpool 3. Every other movie I’ve seen just at my house and honestly no regrets.

I’d be fine never going to a theatre again. I live in a major city on the west coast, so tickets here are like $16-18 a ticket. and that’s before paying for parking, snacks, etc. just to sit in sticky seats, no bathroom break, talking youths, and no dog to sit next to.

Was Jason Statham in that as a time cop and wasn't Jet Li's girlfriend a veterinarian? I've not seen that movie since college, but I vaguely remember bits and pieces. It was pretty fun for a around the millennium popcorn flick.
