How come homosexuality can take a movie or show to the next level like Red Sonjia or Xena

But in other films it makes it sink the other way? hmmmmmmm
In Xena ever gay in the show?

I don’t mean Lawless, I mean the character.
Also, learned only recently that she was a spin-off from the Hercules live action show.

absolute staples for me after school in the 90’s

Edit:

had to pull teeth with Gemini pro, because pro was like “uh how do you define gay?” But no she was never confirmed to be gay on screen in any way. Everything is through subtle subtext ergo no she was not gay.

Last night watched the Roofman (2025). True crime (non murder) about a thief living in a toys r us starring Channing Tatyum. That dude has so much charisma I could watch him in anything.

overall, I’d give it a 3/5.
Good acting performances and I cared about the characters but nothing worth rewatching in it.

tonight we watched now you see me 3. Which has some the next generation casting (not Star Trek, just young blood). Overall, maybe a 3/5 also. It had some cool magic but pretty bad acting, worse imitation accents that were all over the place, and some terrible plot writing. But i enjoyed it for a one time watch.

wife told me she wanted to watch fight club next as she’s never seen it, and we ran into the author recently at a night market. I recognized him and he was just hanging out (not working a booth or anything).

Xena and that little sweet thing she did adventures with were THE Lesbian community icons of the 90s

Watched a submarine movie with Gerard Butler, Hunter Killer last night. Was a fun little film. Decent production values and action all around.

Took y’all’s recommendation and we’re watching Naked Gun (2025).

Loved the Leslie Neilson ones and this one does NOT disappoint. I don’t think I’ve laughed this consistently and this hard at a new comedy in a very long time.

I did catch this over Xmas too.

I have mixed feelings. i watched it with my dad, and before it started I even aired my concerns.
"modern writers are incapable of not being raunchy and inappropriate in comedies."
He told me, but its pg-13. im sure it will be fine.

so..
1. I was pleasantly surprised overall. lots of pretty solid puns and visual gags. 95% of it was pretty spot on and well done.

2. I was frustratingly correct. 2 WILDLY inappropriate jokes. The Austin powers heat vision rip-off joke. but instead of pg-13 silly sexual innuendos. Fucking beastiality. even the "bj" was more overt.
Then again with the snowman. 3some jokes are not appropriate for pg-13.
(austin powers was also pg-13.)

3. didnt love the overreliance on cgi.

Someone (think it was Bandwagon Bandwagon but memory sux) quoted Reign of Fire. I'd never seen / heard of it before so I checked it out

Has a few current action stars before they got big.

English batman , English Greenland 2/300 fatman , Matthew mcoheeeey in his natural state (bald as hell)

English run away from fighting
Americas come with tanks / guns / helo's and kick ass in England
Tracks.
Only real made up part was the dragons.

6.5-7/10 just the right amount of jank for a lowish budget movie.

We watched Code 3 last night with Rainn Wilson.

It was a decent movie, but certainly wasn't a comedy. More just a love letter to how awful the emotional toll is for paramedics: between how the public treats them, the horrors they see constantly, and how little they are compensated for such an important job. I live in a major city on the west coast and paramedics here earn $42-45k/year. Which is absolutely bonkers because that's barely above minimum wage, and what they do is so important.

Overall, it was a good movie. I'd give it a 4/5. No interesting cinematography or anything that stood out, a bit of an exploitative film w/ its gore and shock value. Not a comedy. But very good acting and probably the magnum opus for Rainn Wilson. This is by far his best performance so far. He plays a jaded Dr. Cox type paramedic that is good at his job, wants to help people, but faces systemic barriers that prevent him from helping people.

Watched Dead Man again and hadn't seen it since maybe college.

Jim Jarmusch western with Johnny Depp and a pretty great ensemble cast. I didn't really remember it but I think I probably enjoyed it a lot more just being older. It's free on YouTube right now and it's great.

Watching Conan the Barbarian (1982) for the first time. I’m a big Arnold fan but had never seen this one. Change and Dr Retarded brought up Sword & Sorcery a few days ago, so I’ve been reading the Conan stories by Robert E Howard and plan to watch Kull the Conqueror next

Opening lines: Blood & plunder! Eternal war!

Conan’s mother:

The men in this movie are built like prizefighters and the women don’t look like cave trolls. What a time to be alive.

As if the barbarians would slay Conan’s mother and not turn her into a bang maid. Also fun how it takes place in 100k BCE but they still have Rottweilers lol.

I’ve never seen Arnold in a sex scene before and this was by far one of the weirdest ones I’ve seen in traditional cinema.

also I love how the Arnold fight noises are obviously all voice over, so you know it’s just him in a sound booth going “yaaaahhh” all Arnold-like lol.
