an odysey specific tip, is that when you explore space platforms. and some ground facilities, stockpiles, or launch facilities....some times they have like 4-10 fire foam poppers in them. when you secure the location you can claim. and unmount them. toss them in the ship. and place them all over the ship. basically the interior of your ship should be completely covered by fire foam poppers. if you ever have a superheat scenario inside your ship, in space you are a special kind of fucked for stopping it.

So last night i started a spiral of examining my existing odysey ship (dirt moles) and wishing i had done better, or made other key choices with my peoples roles and stuff.

so i decided to start over . i played wasters in a toxic vent tile, in a ruined city. was kind of amusing. free base. i opened a door and there were 8 chemfuel refineries in a room. exploring the ruins.

THEN i decided i wanted to play tribal neanderthals. ranching/humanist ideology. tamed seals. they can apparentluy haul and i want the amusement of seals carrying crates around the base.

But then i got the gravcore crash scenario (no idea how we signalled it down. maybe we used a wakanda drum). Neanderthals are units man. not as absurd as hussars, but still quite solid....but we're tribal. and cavemen so our research speed is horrific. we just learned 'furniture'. So i did the only logical thing and started to re-build the gravship platform in the shape of a giant log, becaues Brick has visions of a sky log to carry us into the sky. it's made of wood. at some point i'll quit giggling to myself about the caveman starship and actually build it out of steel but for now it's quite amusing to me.

I'm going to tinker with mods to move the anima tree onto the starship itself. it'll envoke the 30 percent penalty for nearby structures, but if i can bring it with me it can actually be of use when we fly the Sky Hammer off into the world.

I have started watching Vequeue as I find him hilarious doing wierd scenarios like yours.

What are Roles/Ideology? Thats from a DLC I guess?

The Odyssey feels a bit easier to play than Vanilla, mainly because I can strip mine and fuck off when it's empty. But thinking of maybe adding another DLC to it, not sure which one though.

Started growing some Devilstrand now as I can't fit any hydroponics yet in the ship, just hope it matures before the Mechs arrive...

I don't like gameplay changing mods in my games but is there some QoL mods you think are important?

yea man. i'm gonna post space cave men later but....i don't think i can seriously keep up the wooden ship. the first thing that happened was a mad boomalope exploed next to it and my cavemen had to go put out the spashe ship on fire.

So ideology was the...second expansion i think. it adds "ideologies" so basically when you start you can make an ideology. you pick a theme (like the stylization of it. pagan, christian, islamic, hellenic, pure ideology, neo-archotechism). then you pick memes. all memes add restricitons/bonuses. So for example you could pick "cave dwellers" who are just fucking jazzed about living underground. you can eat mushrooms and insects with no penalty but hte sunlight bothers your guys. you can stay underground forever without penalty.

You can pick the easiest one ever, cannibalism, where eating human flesh is amazing. Transhumanism where you want cybernetic parts and have bonuses to some tech. and can eat nutrient paste for no reason.

Animal personhood where you can't hurt animals. tree worship where you can't hurt trees. there's...i dunno like 30 choices.

Many memes also come with roles. so Supremacy comes with "melee/ranged specialist" where they are gooder at melee or ranged but cna't do...just about any other labor. there's basically a specialist for every type of skill. and all ideologies have a 'leader' and a 'priest'. and if you make some one the leader or priest, they get new clickies they can use every few days to pep everyone up, or convert people.

Ideology is pretty fun, but it is also a MASSIVE tweak on dificulty because presumibly you will be leaning into your ideology. if you take cave dwellers you will bury deep in the mountain and be happy as a clam while unseige-able.

So for this playthrough i did Ranching, Proslytising (i always take this so my guys agresively convert new people i take in to my relgiion to eliminate diversity of thought). and "humanism".

SO humanism is like "humans are supreme" it makes it where you mostly don't bond with animals, and don't care if animals die. ranchers hate farming regular food, and prefer to eat meat. get bonuses to training (this is a bit of a conflict but the bonuses and penalties equalize out). and proslytizing so i can help convert /prevent conversion.

I took ranching because i wanted to tame seals and watch them play in teh water everywhere i land. i took humanism because they have a production/crafting specialist that is apeshit insane and i never use it, so i wanted to for once.

Ideology is extremely fun for repeat playthroughs . you kind of start over and say"i'm going to take pain is a virtue, darkness meme, and "get high all the time".

I also do not like changing my gameplay much. I'll check my used-mods when i get home.

admitadly I do currently have an improved storage mod that basically doubles storage capacity, and 'appears' much mroe denser and nice looking.

I have "can repair all your gear" so i don't have to deal with people discarding vac-sealed gear to wear knight armor because the old armor was damaged (it still uses resource comensorate to the tech. so it's expensive to maintain so i allow myself to do it).

and for caveman run i took "can transplant anima tree" and "vacume doesn't kill special/magic trees.

I use 'prepare carefully' to customize my starting people. assign their skil points and relationships. so i don't have to hit re-roll 900 times trying to get a non retarded crafter/socializer.

I don't think i use anything else that more profoundly alters the actual game play.

I tried growing the mushrooms but at 44%, fertile soil and plante day one the mechs will now arrive in 15 days.

I don't think its possible to grow them before they find you. Need to find more Thrumbo guys.

I thought Flak Jacket would be good but I see on other places that Dusters protect good as well against damage?

Flak jackets were recently nerfed, they used to cover shoulders (and part of arms?) and now only protect the body.

I like dusters and cowboy hats, they also bring decent protection vs heat.

You should destroy a turret to see what impact that has on things within 1 cell. Don't place them next to things you can't miss or don't want to explode;

Mini-turrets have a 50% chance to explode when below 20% health. The exploding turret will spark and emit a sound for 4 secs before exploding, dealing 50 Bomb damage in a 3.9 tile radius. Damage is multiplied ×8 against walls, ×4 against other impassable structures and plants, and ×2 against passable buildings. All nearby raiders will attempt to move out of the blast radius before detonation.

Nice to see you are doing well, base looks good. What difficulty are you playing?

What material do you recommend making them out of. Need to be something I can hunt or grow relatively fast.

Right now I got 3 guys in Thrumbo Dusters and the rest got Flak Jackets.

Flak jackets were buffed, only flak vests were nerfed.

I go with leather dusters, later on devilstrand is the best. (better then Flack jackets atm even after their buff), thrumbofur and others are too expensive for regular use, until late when you can use space marine armor and whatnot.

Maybe the spaceship makes you meet enough trumbo's to make it reliable though, not sure.

Ah yes, flak jackets make your pawns move a bit slower also, which instantly made me hate them.

Sometimes I enjoy having a dude in full devilstrand use molotovs at very close range. It usually goes well and is pretty entertaining.

Cool thanks!

Just accepted an outpost mission, landed the Gravship there and killed everyone. It does not complete however. Just wait or something bugged?

chairs work in all 4 directions, just like nightstands so;

- delete the 2 metal chairs in the middle on the right side of your dining table
- move the 2 wooden chairs into their position, move your poker table and all chairs 2 cells to the left
- put the chess table between the metal and wooden chair on the bottom row

I think this would let you resize the room so you can build another one to the left of it. Pawns don't use these facilities very often, so its np if they have to climb over a chair or two to get there.

unsure if you changed this yet but, the 2 nightstands on the right side don't do anything, while Val's bed is not connected to one

the ideal setup for small spaces is

bBb
BXB
bBb

Where B = head of bed, b is green part of bed, and X is the nightstand

this lets you connect 4 beds to 1 nightstand

Ah cool! But the thing is... OCD that wants it to be symetric... This game is not good for me in that regard lol.

Might do a revamp like you said to get a Chemfuel room to be safe.

Working toward a Gravtile mission then I need to go up to a station for the last quest I currently have for Vacblocks etc, never gone to space yet.

It looks clean, but wood stuff provides more comfort then metal, while being lower in value so I'd roll with that.

Your current setup for chemfuel stocking seems decent enough, nice that you changed it.

I pretty much build everything square for max efficiency. Even though it always looks boring and standard, can't avoid it.

Revamped it like this for now until I get more space.

I'm pretty much the opposite, I prefer it looking nice instead if effective lol.

The beds and nightstands are marble right now because they complained about it earlier. But wood beds are better for comfort then?

Will rebuild this 500 more times I'm pretty sure, this game is a nice chill game while watching Youtube etc. Think I'm on hour 90 or so allready, with a few AFK hours.

The quest I failed was for 900 Uranium, but this map had Uranium and Gold veins so now I'm good. Just need way more Plasteel.

uranium is the gangsta's metal to make your space ship outer walls out of. more HP. and you can often end up with tons of it. Uranium maces, and spaceship walls.
