Just beat it, and overall I'm quite happy with it. There are a lot of games vying for my time right now so I doubt I'll 100% it, but I did end up at 93% when I decided to complete the story. I like that there's a bit of tying up loose ends after the credits roll and when you hit Continue Game. You can tell that the developers were really passionate about the game and making the world as consistent as possible in spite of the game having many sandbox components.

Here's hoping they keep pumping these out every couple of years.

Edit: Out of curiosity I looked at Steam's global achievement stats for completion on any difficulty; according to the stats ~20% have finished the story. 20% isn't bad for a game that takes 15-20 hours to complete. Survivor completions was significantly lower at 1.4%. Honestly, Survivor was pretty easy, especially if you bothered to upgrade your weapons and do a couple challenge tombs. Towards the end they start throwing wave after wave of enemies at you and it still felt trivial because of all the AoE and huge damage you have at your disposal at that point.

I wanted to 100% this god damn game but running around collecting shit is sooooooooo boring. Good game, very easy but god damn is collecting stuff annoying about half way through the game

Yeah there's a little too much backtracking for collectibles for my taste.

Just 100%'d it today.

Used a map for the collectibles while doing the playthrough, getting almost everything on the first pass avoids a lot of backtracking (except for gated collectibles).

All in all, found the last part of the game a bit rushed, but it's maybe because I did the whole Path of the Deathless -> End of the game in one sitting.

Pretty much the same. 100%'d it and most of it I did as I played which made it not too bad. I didn't use any maps except for the last couple items at the end. After the Geothermal Valley the game kind of felt rushed and weak IMO. Overall I liked the first one better, but this one wasn't bad by any means.

I think it would have been good to have a third zone the size of the Soviet Installation/Geothermal Valley. Kitezh was too small and you had that feeling of urgency the whole time inside it due to the story.

I loved the Soviet storyline and thought they did a great job of showing what happened during the pogroms and how evil Marxists, Socialists and eventually Communists can be.

The details and backstory you get through documents in this game is great.

Beware, huge spoiler
Like Jacob being the Prophet made sense because of the various documents. If you don't pay attention to them, it's kinda coming out of nowhere.

Yeah another very valid reason to be a trophy/ achievement whore.

I didn't have any trouble 100%'ing it either, and I give zero fucks about achievements. Only had to check a map once or twice because I had missed a backpack somewhere, and I had to look up a couple challenges that I had no fucking idea how to even begin. Throwing gourds in barrels... really? Not to mention the silliness of having someone who is supposedly an archaeologist going around breaking shit as a "challenge".

In the end it was a good game, but I think it's pretty severely overrated--especially compared to TR 2013. The main thing that improved over the previous game was the graphics, and even that isn't true all the time. Lara's face is much worse looking than in 2013; the fact that their marketing people still use her old face is particularly telling. The other big improvement was the switch from worthless multiplayer to Expeditions content and the cards that change up gameplay. Unfortunately the best part of Expeditions is locked behind the DLC paywall. Endurance mode is a lot of fun, if for no other reason than it being the only thing in the entire game that is even remotely challenging.

Yeah I don't think they wanted to pay Camilla Luddington for facial mocap this time around, which is a shame.

Price mistake on RISE OF THE TOMB RAIDER (Steam) through Gamestop $17.99, season pass is listed at $9 as well. People are saying do not buy through PayPal or order isnt going through.

Just started playing this on PC. Went with survivor difficulty as recommended. Can you get enough skill points to level up everything? Are there some skills I should prioritize or skip?

Been a bit, but I recall being able to skill everything.

I remember there being quite a few that were just obviously useless too. And if you have the cheater DLC it unlocks a bunch of stuff you'd normally have to spend points on too.

did steam ever build in a function to notify you when a game goes on sale? or is that still only done by 3rd party sites?

If it's on your wishlist you get notifications via email (at least I do, maybe there is an option? idk)
