i might need to add a u7 for my first floor, currently just have the ux7 and u7pro on the opposite ends of the 2nd floor, which is also where we spend most of our downtime. but i notice if i'm on the first floor it'll be on 2.4g which isn't ideal obviously

but nothing has been dropping and i'm actually getting faster device initializations (wifi garage/wifi sprinkler, etc), so maybe i'll just spend my time learning how unifi does vlan instead

also is the u7 anntennas sensitive? i haven't mounted it to the wall yet (attic too hot) and if i just tap it, it blinks out of sync for a minute
I haven't experienced anything like that. Might be worth opening a ticket with them.

I think the weakness in the xg is just range related. I'm not sure what you mean by blinks out of sync, though.
it has a constant blue ring light on, but if i "tap" it physically it wonks out into different ring colors and flashes for 1min

Ah. that is strange. I wonder if there is an issue with the lan connector. The only time it does that for me is if it accidentally gets unplugged. My son loves yanking on cables, and until we move it's difficult to keep him away.

The IP camera people recommend only using factory attached male connectors because they can be temperamental (causing hard to diagnose gremlins), even when a professional does them with the top of the line hand tools. If you ran the current cable through the wall, you might want to unplug the disc, take it over to the router, and plug it in with a shorter patch cable; then see if it's doing the same thing.
