Latest legacy game, described by its designer as a cross between Pirates of the Caribbean and Indiana Jones. I was really looking forward to this game for ages but the early reviews turned me and my gaming group off it a bit. I found myself in another group to play it though and so far I'm really enjoying it after two games.

The's still very much a euro, with a lot of carrying cubes from one spot to another, but it has some really neat mechanics which become even more interesting when they play into the legacy side of things. I can see why some people may not enjoy it straight away since it's not a full game out of the box, in the way that risk or pandemic are, but actually evolves with new games rules and mechanics coming into play after certain number of games.

It does have it's flaws. It's very slow, with a lot of downtime between turns, which can be frustrating with 5 players and if you have AP prone people in your group. I also find myself second guessing decisions and choices and kicking myself for not picking better when I've thought about them a bit more afterwards. I also think the way the log book decisions are done is a bit crap and too random for my liking.

I'm definitely looking forward to playing it more often and chaffing a little at my group only meeting fortnightly to play just one game! If you were on the fence about it, I would recommend it though perhaps just commit to playing the prologue to see if you like the game, though that involves potential spoilers for the rest of the game.

My group is starting its pay through tomorrow, we set aside Sunday afternoons till the new year (skipping holiday weekends) in the hope we can get in 2 games per session but comments and reviews make me thing we might be at one game a week once the game fleshes out some. Wicked excited tho

Did the Prologue and the first game Sunday, looks neat so far, can't wait to play this week and try to combo up my kept Adviser and new trait.

Just played third game tonight. Still really enjoying it but it is slowing down a bit. We do have a couple of AP prone people but there's a lot more stuff going on now.
Catchup mechanic seems to be pretty well done. I keep second guessing what I should have upgraded.

Totally, going first seems really good. My whole group is AP (especially when it comes to ordering food) we did 3rd and 4th games yesterday (Prologue +3), started at 1 ended at 930. I still haven't came in first.

The enmity tokens aren't explained well enough in the rules, Grey jerks sunk my big ship, trying to enslave natives to ill ends is still hilarious.

I upgraded my big ship to Raid 4, and my small ship to Explore 4 for my 3 points so far. I can't decide if they should be together all the time to support or split up to get more done on the map.

How well does/doesn't it handle new players, or is it pretty much required you have the same group or a replacement player must play something another player used.

Thought Pandemic Legacy handled this pretty easily since characters can change game to game, but with this you're essentially building up your faction/fleet right?

$56 on Amazon is pretty tempting. Amazon lately has seemed pretty stingy w/ the board game discounts.

I haven't looked at the files specifically but you pretty much have to stick with the same group. There are up to 5 'houses' competing in the game so a new player would need to use an unused one if you started with less than 5 or take over one from a player who left

Yeah, can't read the rulebook from work, but apparently it's addressed there. Some are saying they just reserve upgrades/decisions for the 'floating' player for the start of the next game rather than the end of the prior.

Either way, even as someone who normally plays co-op games almost exclusively this game sounds too awesome to pass up.

Finally got around to playing game 6 last night. I still mostly enjoy it but it's really too slow.
What game / part are you stuck on?

We got past it, we just hadn't done enough of a thing. We just opened the last box, there's a last game then rules to play non-story games going forward. Its still ok, still look forward to playing it every week but I would not play it again, and I ran through Pandemic Legacy twice.

Yeah I kept the limit to 4 (BGG forums said 4>5) and told everyone they had to commit to at least one session every Sun afternoon, holidays excluded, and didn't start till i had that ready. Ill give Pandemic Legacy credit, it kept the players wanting to play again. We are at the point we just want to see the end.

We're going a game every fortnight, which helps prevent it turning into a chore or making it tedious for some of the players. 3 of us are fighting for the top, always competing for winning each game, while 2 have dropped off. Not sure how they'll be able to catch up.
Still enjoying the game but the pace and speed are major negatives for it. I'm also starting to dislike how swingy / random is can be, not just in dice but in cards drawn and choices made.

Ratina Ratina I think we're stuck at the same point you were also because the thingy hasn't been use in that place because not enough other things had been made yet. People are wondering why is hasn't been done yet but they don't know you can't do it until another other things are made. ps I have the things ;)

I found having all the things don't always help! We finished, there's rules to play after the Legacy stuff but id rather play a different game so I gutted it for parts (hey Boat minis!) I was red, and we had no purple, by the end I used all my and half of purple's aggro stickers, needless to say i did not win...

did you see the box pics for Pandemic Legacy Vol 2?

Yep, looks awesome. Can't wait to play it. I ended up playing through PL twice since I got it as birthday present. Was still great experience though I had to step back and not offer any advice on what the rest the group should do since it was there first time.

Yep, did the same thing. Played it with 2 groups, 2nd one I just pushed to get 4 upgrades on the Specialist but no other advice. I would play through it again if given the chance.
