That season of The Island was fucking amazing, and should be mandatory viewing in high schools. It's worse than that clip makes it look. The men were seriously thriving, and then the producers were like "fuck, this looks bad...we need to send some of the men over to help the women" and ruined the good thing the men had going on.

Gill nets you drop down like a wall, fish get their gills or fins caught. Big nets on like a shrimp boat encircle the shrimp or fish, scoop them up from the water column. That's why you always see you video of shrimp boats bringing it over the deck and then dumping everything out usually nice and clean. Gill nets you got to untangle the fish.

I had a Vietnamese family that lived across the street from me when I was growing up in New Orleans, and I always used gill nets on their boat.
